View Full Version : File "notator" required
I've never seen this -- but that just means I haven't found it yet . . . I hope. I want software with which I can attach a 'note' to any file on my computer, and then read the note, by right-clicking the file, in Windows Explorer.
I have literally hundreds of files, many named the same but from different sources eg "mytrip01.doc; mytrip02.doc etc" and zip files like "marketing01.zip; marketing02.zip".
If I could simply right-click any given file and read a thumbnail description of what's inside it, while browsing my computer with Win Explorrer, my problem would be solved.
Any ideas?
Cheers
John
I have never heard of this, but I would be interested in any info you find out about it.
Don't know of any such utility for all files, but for your Zip files there is a way.
IF you use Winzip 8 or better, you can open your zipped files with WinZip and then click on "Actions" and then select "Comment". Add what text you want to describe your file and "Save"
Then when you hover your cursor over that Zip file it will display what is in the comment field.
Just my "For What It's Worth"
I fancy I once heard about the Winzip thing -- better than nothing I guess. Wonder if I can invent what I'm after, and make a motza selling it hehehehe :o)
Thanx for your time guys

This is what I love about forums -- Symo, one of the ones you linked to is the same one as mine . . . but I grabbed the other one (From PC Magazine), and am about to check it out. Paul, I guess Win 98 doesn't have right-click Quick View -- maybe you're on XP or something?
I've stayed with Win 98 because I hate Billy G making me register to use his software (and because I'm afraid to unsettle my network and lose job time, AND because I spent so much money on books and CDs to get my feeble old brain around Win 98!)
