Hi,

I switched to powweb from a much smaller provider (your-site.com). I like powweb better but your-site had one thing that I miss...much better, more detailed web stats.
A year ago they switched to urchin (http://www.urchin.com/) and offered the standard (light) for free and for a one-time free of $10 users could get the pro version.
I would easily pay $10, maybe even more and I am sure other users would too.
Thoughts ?

Their reports are really cool, telling you where the traffic came from and so on.

Thoughts ? Opinions ?

It appears that webstats, depsite it's shortcomings, is back in working order. Honestly, the only things that matter are:

1) how many actual visits (hits don't mean anything)
2) how much bandwidth am I using
3) where did they come from

Anything else is just fluff :)

but, to answer your question, yes, i'd pay $10 for a comprehensive report that told me what my visitors had for breakfast and what the heck they were looking for at my site but didn't buy ;)

Our web stats give us all we need and in fact if you were looking after a clients site you have some pretty impressive marketing tools here, you can tell them the pages visited and the movement of visitors around the site thus letting them know if certain areas of the site are really dead wood

you can see where people have redirected from, the search engine criterea what browser types they are using were etc etc etc

all this for free !!! i would imagine that if you were well business savvy you could put this together in a monthly report to a client and charge quite handsomly for this marketing advice, or at least highly impress them.

what more do you need to know? what brand of cigarette the users are smoking? are they left handed? what is their gender ?

if you really need to know more about your user base then stick in a form i think that we really have to limit what sort of info we are automatically gleaning from our visitors. I mean don't you just hate cookies ???

I've done everything that has been suggested in this forum to try and get my stats working, to no avail.

Webstats is a dog and has to be replaced. I haven't had stats since July, which for me is a disaster - my sales are down 40% from the previous quarter, even though I added hundreds of new pages - I've lost over AUD$8,000 from the previous quarter. I just can't see what pages are working for me, where my visitors are coming from or where they are going.

For me, the most important stat is Entry Page, though I obviously need Unique Visitors to impress my advertising company and get listed on various Top100 lists.

SimCoWeb says: "It appears that webstats, depsite it's shortcomings, is back in working order"

Well, maybe it works for you, but there are plenty of webslaves (there are no webmasters!) here for whom Webstats does not work.

PLEASE replace webstats! Stats were supposed to be included in the package deal that we paid for here - but it is obvious webstats does not work.

I'm prepared to throw some money at the problem, as I'm sure other webslaves are too - far more than the Poll indicates.

THIS IS NOW AN URGENT SITUATION - we've been talking about this now for months!

how can the powweb webstats be configured ? Is there a config file and has anybody set it up ? Where do I place it ?

Thanks,

got to ops.powweb.com, click on Packages, then at the HTTP row the first option will be:
Turn ON Webstats for http://YourSite.com.
click on it and enable it.
At least that's how I did it and it works

I know how to turn them on but they give no valuable data at all.
I liked my old service where I could see where users came from, what sites they hit the most and so on.
It looks like that there is a way to configure the webalizer too. Here is the config file example from their page. I just don't know if I can do it or if powweb would have to.

ftp://ftp.mrunix.net/pub/webalizer/sample.conf

Thanks,

claus

That's just a point of view, I think Powweb's webstat is great it provides me with all the info I need with graphics, so I don't have to read which I hate :).
How are you accessing your status ?

[Daily Statistics] [Hourly Statistics] [URLs] [Entry] [Exit] [Sites] [Referrers] [Search] [Users] [Agents] [Countries]

You get all these info in more detailed and graphic mode, I think this is good.

I am sorry I couldn't help you more

My fault, my fault...I did not see the details. I still stick with my original complaint, remark. I like Urin a lot better. Cleaner looking, more info (if wanted), nicer graphics.

Is PowWeb going to implement the suggestion here to replace Webstats - or do I go find something that works?

Please do something - no stats since July is killing me! Coming up to Christmas now and I have to find stats that work.

I'd like to share my experience regarding PowWeb's history with Web stats.

PowWeb has known that their Web stats do not work for almost a year now, yet they continue to advertise them with their hosting packages.

Web stats mean very little to non-commercial sites and a great deal to the success of most commercial sites. Their importance to you is determined by your need for them. Since most of the sites at PowWeb are non-commerical sites not too many people here complain about them not working consistently. That's why PowWeb doesn't rank fixing the problem high in their priorities of things to do.

As a consolation to those who need Web stats, PowWeb promised us last spring to fix the problem or replace the application. So far they have failed to do so and many people have given-up compaining about it. When we do our posts are deleted and we are told we can go somewhere else if we are not happy.

That's it... complain all you want, or justify why you don't need them, it doesn't matter. PowWeb obviously could care less one way or the other.

one on lunar is not working - as if I don't have enough problems with THAT server!
one on space works fine
