New Computer ???????????

Hi All!

I built my new machine with P4 2 ghz of speed. I have 512 DDR ram 2700 pc and still my XP PRO is slow on it. Any idea? How can I make it work fast I think 512 is good enough to run XP PRO.

I have read that there are several tricks and tweaks to help XP with the speed problems, things that are not needed and tend to slow the system down.

If your having trouble with the new Windows XP Home or Pro

These new operating systems are weighed down with alot of junk the home pc user doesn't need.

I configured my xp pro version close to what the owner of the website recommends, I saw a marked improvement in my systems performance.

Read through the recommedations carefully, after your done
re-boot your system.

My advice:

Dump XP, get Windows 2000 Pro.


It looks and feels just like XP with all the "bloat" turned off.

I had a 2.4Ghz P4 with 1GB of RD Ram a 64MB Geforce 3 Ti200
and a 7200RPM 80GB Maxtor hard drive... I had XP Pro on there.. felt like wading through molasses. Put 2K on it and if was like riding a shuttle rocket booster!

XP sucks the life out of a otherwise powerful PC.

Also, 2700 DDR memory is still not as fast as RD Ram. Had a identical system to the one above but with 2700 DDR and it wasn't as fast... maybe when DDR hits 400MHz

Now for real performance I use my Apple Powerbook Titanium 800 : ) hehe

Sold the 2.4 Ghz PC and bought a powerbook best damn move I made.

XP should be running fine with 512 MB DDR but when you built the box did you give it a 7200 RPM hard drive and after loading everything if you keep most of the icons off the desktop and defrag the system it will make an improvement.

XP will also bog down if try and run any software that is not "Designed for XP" win 2000 will run better in that case.

I have tried XP and dumped it after 1 week. It takes up 2 much resources and it is slow as sh!t.

Windows 2000 pro is the best MS OS out there. I have a box that's been running it for 2 years, just as fast as a fresh install!
