I'm working on a movie trivia site, and I just thought I'd try and find out if anyone else here is nearly as big into movies as my friends and I. We're all college-age (not all of us in college), and most of us are unemployed...basically, smalltown bums.
Anywho, I have over 200 DVD titles. Not really genre-specific...if I watch a movie and like it, it'll usually end up in my collection. I don't buy many of them new (at least not retail price). I have three friends working at two movie stores (two assistant managers and a part-timer), so I usually get to milk that for some cheap at-cost movies (not to mention early rentals...we watch all the new releases a week before they hit the shelves ;) ). I'm not even the worst one...I know a guy with somewhere around 400 DVDs. Most of his are used off eBay (he'll buy anything and everything if it's cheap).
DVDs aside, I'm also one of those flaming geeks who waits in line for movie openings. I spent the night outside a theater (in full Darth Maul costume) to see 'Episode I' the morning I was supposed to be taking finals my Senior year in high school. My aunt called me in sick (she's a Trekkie, but respects my love for Star Wars). I camped unnecessarily for 12 hours in front of the same theater to be in the first group to buy tickets to 'Lord of the Rings: Fellowship.' The theater barely sold out, but it was still the movie event of my life!
When Episode II came out, I didn't camp (it wasn't necessary, the first one was such a disappointment). I showed up a mere two hours early and got semi-decent seats.
I KNOW there are plenty of people out there like me, I'm just wondering if there are any in these forums...
