View Full Version : streaming video formats available on powweb?
OK I have a dv cam and authoring this site for my client, hosted on powweb, and wondering if powweb supports streaming so like I could stream a rm file, or asf or whatever. I can encode to most anything, so.....
Just wanted to know if this was possible, or do I have to just have them download it?
Thanks :)
I have not gotten that far yet in my own web development, but I do plan to implement some streaming video clips, too.
Powweb definitely supports it, and a great place to start figuring out how to do it would be to go to the Powweb support page
http://support.powweb.com/
Click on Tutorials and then scroll down to Add-ons/Streaming Real Media via HTTP. I think that will get you started, at least, then if you have further problems you might post something in these forums so we all can learn from your exploration.
Good luck, and I would really like to hear how you get it to work.

Ok, just upload your .rm or .ra file, and then make a text file called filename.ram that has the full link like http://www.your-dom.com/filename.ram and then make a link to the filename.ram and when they cick on it streaming begins.
Does this mean then that you have a dV cam Dale?
That sounds really easy, Lineman. Thanks for reporting back.
I have stopped myself short of dropping the credit card down for a nice mini-DV cam a number of times in the past year. All I have is a Sony Cybershot which can only save short mpegs.
Getting into true DV format is a big leap and a bigger learning curve. All the equipment I want to buy ( I have very expensive tastes).....and all that editing software to learn....it is going to have to wait. I think I have my plate full with learning advanced webmaster skills at the moment. I will get there, though, later this year. But I am definitely going to use a short clip or two on the website I am working on now.
When that site is developed a bit more, I will post it here for a general critique. That should give all of the people I gave my opinions to a good chance to retaliate.
Good luck with yours, and I would like to see what you did when you are ready.
Dale
What advanced skills are you referring to, and what is your site? The site I maintain for my client is www.thinkfog.com . Maybe we could email back and forth instead of this forum? randy@thinkfog.com .
