How does one get an avatar to appear under their user name? This is the response I got from [Contact Us]:
"We cannot handle this for you. If you want to add an avatar in our forum, you need to handle this on your own through your forum account."
Warren
Just go to your control panel (the one w/in this forum, NOT your Powweb control panael), click on "edit options", and add it where it says "avatar". :)
Go to your user profile and click on "Edit Options." You'll see the field for avatars at the bottom. The max size is 50 x 50.

Got it. Thank you both.
Warren
starr,
How is it you get to have an avatar larger than 50 x 50?? ....
You devil, you. :p

you have to do that in admin cp :-/
Hmm something must have changed, because in my "Edit Options" section when I click "Change Avatar" it takes me to the avatars page, and under "Use avatar?" there is only a no radio button, not a yes radio button. :( Also, when i click "more info" there are no avatars there to use, and although it says when I have 50 or more posts i can specify a custom avatar, I've seen people with fewer who had one.
perhaps someone can point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Jeff
You must supply the avatar. There are none provided to choose from. You can either create one or surf the web for one.
Hope this helps!
I understand that... but how do I get it from my computer to the forum? I saw reference to instructions in other posts, but I cannot find them.
Thanks!
Jeff
To add an Avatar:
Click User CP (Above) which will open your user control panel. From there, click Edit Options. Scroll to the bottom of this page and you'll see a section for your Avatar, with a button that reads "Change Avatar". Click this and you'll bring up a page to upload your avatar. Upload the avatar and click Submit Modifications.
Hope this helps!
Hmm... there is no place to upload it, so I guess I do need to have 50 posts. Thanks for your help!
Jeff
There's no post requirement to upload an avatar. I had mine upload after just a few posts.
It appears that the Forum rules have changed. It does state:
"If you have more than 50 posts, you may also specify your own custom avatar."
I guess i'd better get posting then :)
Thanks
Jeff
I'm confused ... I have 50 posts (actually, 51 with this one) yet I can't see any standard avatars from which I can choose. If powweb doesn't supply avatars, where can I get one?
- Gail
They do not supply any standard ones.. but you can upload your own. Under Edit Options in your CP, go to the bottom, and click "Change Avatar". The resulting page should have an option that lets you upload it, or point it to a web address.
Where do I find an avatar? Can I use any graphic of the appropriate size?
- Gail
Yup, you can use anything you want!

Might find something here you would like.

Gail,
The avitars are just 50x50 pixel jpg's or gif's.
Just find a picture or graphic you like and resize it to 50x50 and then you can upload it through the Control Panel.

Thanks ... everyone. Now, I have another task ... to try to find a graphic I want to represent me. That's a tough one. <grin>
Gail
Or you could let us pick one for you. :D

Is there a reason for a 50 post requirment for an avatar?
Well, I'm not real sure why they decided on the 50 post requirement. But I have a feeling that it is because they don't want their server loaded down with 1,000's of avatars for every person that happens by and registers.
Remember, anyone can register to the forum, but normally the only ones that will stick around and post 50 posts are the Powweb users who are seeking and offering help from/to each other.
That's my "theory" on it anyways.
Just my "For What It's Worth"
better get posting??
with (currently) 300+ posts?!
man, i'm behind the curve...
heh
Ok, I found something that I will try out as an Avatar. I'm not sure it's the right size, or that it will display properly, so forgive me if I change it a few times.

Butterflies are nice and blue is my fav color.
Thanks,
... and I'm satisfied with the size and the fact that I was able to get the background to be transparent. Guess I'll keep it for a while.
Now, I need to find a tag line. I like the one you selected; but, of course, I'll find a different one. Somewhere, I once came across a Web page with 1- or 2-line quotables. I need to find it again.

Sophie,
Your Avatar is simply marvelous!! To go along with her appearance, you need to pronounce it s mahvelous with a Hollywood accent. <grin>

Gail,
why thankyou, but i feel a need for change every now and then. What do you think of my new outfit and hair colour? :p
Sophie,
A woman should always be allowed to change her mind -- and her appearance. I must say, she looks very dramatic now! If you don't keep her current "look" at least save it for next Hallowe'en or Mardi Gras.
Where did you find her and her outfits? Does she have any "sisters?"

Gail,
Would it frighten you to know that I dress like that nearly every time I go out? Im whats commonly referred to as a "freak" :p But thats ok, Im used to it.
I got her at www.sinfulgothic.com, I got my old avatar at a site called coyotes graphics horde, I cant remember the url but i do remember that it was hosted on geocities. The Sinful Gothic site, if you go to it, the avatars link is on the right hand side menu about half way down. Theres a few there. I left the blonde ones alone, as I am in no way and never will be blonde. I just dont have the colouring :p
never met a freak that i couldn't get along with... we were always in the same club.
