Using webalizer stats, does anyone know....

What is the difference between "hits" for Top 30 Total URLs and "hits" for Top 30 Total Referrers?

If the same page shows 4294 hits for Total URLs and shows 18808 hits for Referrers, which is the true number of actual visitors to this page?

Thanks for any help :)

Thanks, but that didn't quite answer my question. I think I know the differences between hits and visits. My question was....

why would the same page from my website show 4 times more hits as a 'referrer' than as a 'top url' if it is being visited by the same number of people? I wondered what the difference was there.

The URL is where the person is hitting on your site...so if you have 474 pages on your site..there will be 474 URLs. So I guess the statistic is showing you the most visited pages of your site. Usually the most visited is / which is just the front page. The referrer is the site which sent you...usually it is from a LINK. I've noticed however that my flash page appears as a "referrer" as well as my index page and what I gather is that some people have my index page linked or my entry page..or my navigation bar...so that is considered a referral. I'm not a web genius so I don't know if this is all correct..but that is what I've gathered. My site is www.natewood.net.

I know it makes a difference how the website is typed into the system regarding the "referrer" information. If someone types in natewood.net it is listed differently then if someone types in www.natewood.net...but I don't see how that would make for such a HUGE difference between your URL and Refferal number.

Thanks for the replies so far :) I agree kraskin and I know what you mean....it's the huge difference that I'm trying to understand. No matter where someone clicked to get to this particular page, from within the website, or from an email.....is the number of visitors to this page actually over 18000 or 4000? hmmmmmm.....

All the 'referrer' hits are hits from within the site, no outside links.
