.htacess .htpasswd

Hi guys,

Can someone please help me with this? I got the info for making passworded sections of a site from the powweb help section. However, I guess I'm not understanding it well enough because I can't get any of the user names and passwords I make to authenticate.

The info here was helpful, but it still does not work. Do I have to have a script or something for my passwords to authenticate? And if no, then what I'm I doing wrong?

1. You have to create .htaccess and .htpasswd with Notepad or other pure text editor with word wrap off.
2. Make sure you upload the .htaccess to the folder you want to protect ascii mode.
3. Plave the .htpasswd file at the same level as htdocs.
4. Encrypt your password.
