Ok, so here's the problem. See, I was running my site fine for a long time, transfered over to powweb.com, great service may I add. I only have one prob here, you see, my package got disabled when I noticed my site said VENUS.POWWEB.COM when my site got loaded (frozenstorm.com) then, the next day, its still there, and today, its gone, and wont load at all.

When I log into the members area it says my package is disabled, and when I go to history and read why "YTJAMESLEE" Disabled it because of a CGI script my site was using called POLL-IT its a little poll script (obviously) and he said somebody was trying to do a bash attack, well geez, I dont know anything about that, I mean, my site is down and I payed almost 100 dollars, and I didnt mean for anybody to do anything bad.

I can delete that cgi script, but I just want my site back, can I get any help over there? What am I going to do here? I cant afford another host, I barely could get this one...

If your site took down a Powweb server, it caused downtime for possibly thousands of other customers. So, you would have to demonstrate that you have the knowledge and integrity to take steps to prevent that happening in the future.

Your only recourse at this time is to contact Powweb directly (http://powweb.com/contact.html) and explain your position.

Do I take this thread to mean that someone took down a server... and now because of that, MY site is down?????

My board is americanconservatives.net... and it went down about 30 minutes ago... is this the reason why? ... Can I get an estimate on when it might be back up again? ...

As a new customer, this is not instilling a whole heck of alot of faith...

No no no... I did not bring the server down - it was just the package got disabled. I promise, if I get my site back, I will not install any poll cgi scripts - i will remotely host all cgi scripts. That you have my promise. Or hey, I might even host it on my pc, I just want my site back.. you can understand.. it means everything to me.

Ya... I understand... I have only had my site up for four days... and I have ALOT of very angry members right now!... We built our own site because the site we USED to be on kept going down...

fcsnc seems to think that your site took down the server... what am I supposed to tell the members of my site?

Well it seems to still be down, the only service on venus working for me is pop3

:sigh:

Sometimes this happens, but luckily it does not happen often. I just wish it wasn't on a Saturday night since this is when most of our orders come in through our site. I simply hope this gets resolved soon... perhaps I will just have a beer and relax. Not much else to do is there? :)

Take care

frozenstorm, the cgi script you installed is flawed if you did not set it up with the intention of doing what was done. That script simply created the file, it did not call inetd to run on it, which was something you would have had to do through another script or ??

If you remove the cgi script or fix its flaws, we will re-enable your site. Please contact support@powweb,com once you have done this.

PowWeb has recently upgraded security on their servers which allows us to monitor this kind of activity more closely.

james... so what is the estimated time that we might expect to have our sites back up?

My site is also on Venus and also appears to be down (it was working fine this afternoon) -- I can't access it via the web or via FTP. Any idea when we can expect to see Venus back up?
