Hi there, for over a month FTP has been messed up. I haven't been actively working on my site so it's taken me a while to really care.
I can log in perfectly fine, and i can change directories to my heart's content. But if i try to 'ls' or 'get' or 'put' anything, it just sits there for a while and then finally times out. What's going on? I've been using the same ftp program all along, so it must be a server-side problem. I looked into a few other ftp problems people were having but i didn't see this problem mentioned (maybe because it's so old now). Has this happened to anyone else?
thanks.
I started getting frequent FTP stalls and time-outs ever since PowWeb began using PureFTPd - sometime last May or so.
Before then, I had no problems at all. I've been using the same FTP program all along, too.
Have you tried changing PASV mode to PORT, that could solve your problem. ???

SWEETNESS! Now it works!
thanks for your help, clown! although i think you might have said the solution backward:D ...I had to change *from* PORT (sendport) *to* PASV (passive).
this rules--thanks again, clown. and hopefully your site is up and running now.
Oh well, at least someone is now working!
Glad to be of service, I guessed at the PASV being wrong, at least others will now know to use that instead of PORT if they have similar problems.
Hi Clown,
Where is the PASV/PORT specified : in my ftp app or on powweb options???
Thanks,
Solo
Hello !
It's in your FTP application, it will be in preferences or site manager or somewhere like that.
If you tell me which one you are using I'll see if I can help further if you can't find it.

Hi Clown,
I'm using WS_FTP and under options, it's set to "Use Passive Transfer". Is that it or is it somewhere else?
Thanks,
Solo
Try swapping it then, I would have said that setting it to PASV might have firewall issues, but it seemed to work the other way around for blake.
Saying that, it might be something else entirely, but timeouts are normally PORT / PASV problems or firewall issues.
Thanks Clown,
I'll give this a try...
