Can anyone recommend a good program - hopefully a free one - that can check links in a large site?

Thanks

I've been using a program called Xenu Link Sleuth and have found it to be very good at finding broken links.

You can check it out at http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html

I downloaded it and gave it a try... I think I might have too much for it. It checked about 30 pages and stopped.

Thanks

That's odd, I've got 100-150 pages of mostly all links and the version I have checks every one of the pages.

Wonder if something was changed between ver b and ver d !

I use Superlinks (http://www.obsidian-scripts.com/?tag=SuperLinks) Standard Edition for my web site, 4WDLinks.com (http://www.4wdlinks.com).

Super easy to install and maintain. They have a personal edition you can use for free.

Xenu is great. I use it on one of my corporate sites (not on PowWeb) with over 2000 pages. 30 pages should be a breeze for it - Xenu is very fast. If you have a slow machine, you may want to limit the number of simultaneous threads it uses - this is a preference setting.

Hi guys...

I followed the installation guide for SuperLinks Personal Edition
Version 3.0d PUBLIC BETA:

+Created the directories
+CHMOD the Private and Public directories to 777
+CHMOD the SuperLinks.cgi and install.cgi files to 755

and when run the install.cgi I just get this:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, support@powweb.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The error log:

Premature end of script headers: /www/x/x/htdocs/dir/install.cgi
Premature end of script headers: /powweb/web/cgi-bin/error.cgi

Thanx for your help

XENU is fast and checks to any depth specified by you, Please check the link depth.

XENU will also create nice reports for you.

Somewhat along the same lines, does anybody know of a good program to copy an entire site? I'm looking to work on my site via another computer and even though I would rather just copy from my laptop, I've got problems with the laptop and don't have any blank cd-r. Is there a program that will copy an entire site without having to manually do everything.

I realize I could ftp and download but a firewall that I can't figure out is blocking ftp.

I just installed and used Xenu to check my site (more than 7100 URLS) and it worked perfectly.

Try a Chmod of 755 instead of the 777 on the directories.

For future reference ... don't chmod anything 777 or 666.

The script will probably not work if you do, and if for some reason it does, it leaves the script wide open to be hacked.

Skunkboy,

If you are having trouble, do you want to download to that computer or make copies there? Maybe Santa will bring you something like a cd burner.

You could disable the firewall just to download the files if you are daring. If you are using a router with a built-in firewall, you won't need firewall software installed on the computer. If you are using Zone Alarm, you probably have it set to block ftp!

I chmoded dirs to 755 and got the same error, same "Premature end of script headers: /www/x/x/htdocs/dir/install.cgi" in the error log

any idea? :(

Did you edit the scripts at all before uploading? If so, are they correct? What editor did you use?

When you uploaded the script, was it ASCII mode? Passive mode? Your chmod is set to 755 for scripts and folders?

Hi YvetteKuhns...

I didnīt edit anything in the script ..

scripts and folders are set to 755 ...

I uploaded the files using Invision Power File Manager , I donīt know if it uses ASCII mode, but I use it a lot without trouble...

Thanx,

JJ - Thanks much.

Yvette - I've got a burner... its on the stupid DELL... and we all know what's wrong with that. *Now class, lets say it all together - Power Cord* lol

plus, the highspeed that I want to use has a modem not a router... so I'm stuck ... I would just use the Dell if I could but why by a router for a connection that isn't mine.

Abiel,

What is your domain name or the link to the script?

Skunkboy,

I hope Santa brings a power cord or a whole new computer (that is not a Dell)! ;)

Santa arrived via Airborne Express shortly before 5:00 with my power cord. woohoo! I'm on a "real" computer now... only downside... I'm on dial-up. I downloaded everything on the other computer now I get to do it again. woohoo! but you don't have to listen to me say I need a power cord anymore :D
