Hi.
I know this is probably simple.. but can anyone tell me why the DOWNLOAD file on this pagehttp://www.themessageplace.com/tathomas/
does not prompt what folder to save to and just downloads and starts RealPlayer automatically ??

Also...
Why on This page:
http://www.themessageplace.com/halpine/

in NETSCAPE do all the files start playing when the page loads.. automatically ??

andwhile we're at it.. what's your opinion ???
Better to embed a plugin like above... or just have a link that opens plug-in ???

Thanks

Your first URL returns with a Page Not Found.

Your second one scared me, with all those media player consoles loading.. I had a heck of a time getting to the "x" close window button.. your page was using too many of my resources.

What file types are these, midi/mp3/real...???

You might be better off searching for a "jukebox" script that uses a playlist. It would make for a nicer looking page, and not scare someone when they see all those consoles loading.

Sorry,
I realized I changed the ppage after I posted this message. The new one is
http://www.themessageplace.com/tathomas/

yeah the other scared me too... that's what I'm tryingto fix. I dont want them all opening at once.. I want the user to be able to pcik which selection they want.

That's one reason I'm thinking og having links that open up the plugins instead of embedding them

fosko,

You are fighting 2 problems here, one of them is nothing you have any control over. That being that what happens with the MP3 file totally depends on the way your visitor has their system setup. If they have a plugin installed into their browser that will play an MP3 then it will automatically start playing when the button is clicked on. The only way around this is to put a statement under the link telling them to "Right Click this Link and Save Target As to save it to your hard drive"

Your other problem concerns the ram file that you have linked with the real link. A ram file is NOT the ra or music file, it is a file that tells Real Player to open and stream the music. Even doing a "Save Target As" will not get your visitor the ra file downloaded.

I would be tempted to leave it "As Is" and add the text telling people how to download the MP3 if they wished to do so. And leave the Real link set to play the file if the person wants to listen to it and has the Real Player installed. Otherwise, you will have to link directly to the ra file and even then you may have to tell them to Save Target As.

Thanks a lot...

MP3.
I think i'll put that instruction there.. It makes it easier. and I'll also adddress it in my FAQ's

How do I prevent multiple files from playing in NETSCAPE when the page loads ???
I'm thinking, just put a link and not embedd the player.. but I don't know how to stream my Windoes Media files.

Any help ??

fosko,

You may want to look here http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/workshop/entry.asp

A search there may turn up the information you need.

Well, this is frustrating....
downloads work fine in IE....but then I move to NETSCAPE.. Windows Media opens up some page witha lot of ccharacters (some source code I'm guesing) and there is no 'right click' option to download a file.
