The MySQL outages seem to be floating around the different Powweb servers. Jupitor's MySQL was down earlier, but someome must've kick the server since it's back up. Hopefully Calisto will come back the same way soon...

Looks like some things have changed on magnatar and its mysql db.

I was seeing " Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' "

What worked for me was to specify the host as the fully qualified domain name "magnatar.powweb.com" instead of the resource efficient "localhost"

ie. in php terms mysql_connect ("magnatar.powweb.com", "username", "password")

I would guess that /tmp/mysql.sock got deleted. Maybe powweb could comment
