hello, all, newbie here in the php/mysql forum... i am currently reading a few php and mysql books, and, in the beginning of two of my books (on php), there is an installation guide to php and mysql. do i need to install these on my (local) computer?

thx in advance.

You can if you want to, and it helps to be able to work on stuff on your own computer. It's not really necessary, but it's more convenient than sitting around on FTP having to upload files to your PowWeb account before you can view changes.

There are a few nice all-in-one packages that include Apache web server, PHP, and MySQL.

You can find one here: http://www.easyphp.org/telechargements.php3
