Is there a DVD software that allows you to play DVD with a CD-ROM drive? Is there a program that allows you to record phone conversations when your phone is connected to the back of the modem?
1. No, CD ROM drives and DVD drives use totally different formats and are completely incompatible. Even if there were such software, it would probably cost more than an inexpensive DVD drive does today.
2. There are programs that allow you to use your computer as an answering machine. Some of these do offer the ability to record conversations while you are using the phone. However, the recorded wav files are rather large in size, so a typical telephone conversation could fill up a good sized hard drive.

Be very careful if you're going to record phone calls. In some states (like New York) it's illegal to record calls without the knowledge and permission of both parties. Check out your state, county and city/town/village laws and regulations first.

Check out your ISP (service providers) home page. For a small monthly fee ($5.50 au) many now handle calls while you're online. You need a sound card headphones and mic. Or see if they provide ASDL (poor mans cable) It uses a standard phone line is faster than dial-up and won't tie up the phone.
