A few days ago I found this program called SpamButcher (http://www.spambutcher.com/). I am posting this because I think you all should know about it. What SpamButcher does is check your POP3 account periodically for spam, and when it finds an e-mail it thinks is spam, it intercepts it before it ever reaches your inbox.

From the SpamButcher screen you can easily review intercepted e-mail to double-check that it is truly spam--the program is not perfect. Of course, if it misses a piece of spam or if it catches something it shouldn't have, you can add those e-mail addresses to its "Known Good Senders" or "Known Bad Senders" list.

Normally I recieve about 25+ pieces of spam a day, but since I set up the program, only one piece of spam has reached my inbox, and only one legitimate e-mail was intercepted (for a newsletter I subscribe to).

If you have spam problems I highly recommend at least trying out this program. Unfortunatly, after a 30 day trial they want $29.95 for it. However, I just may purchase the program when my trial runs out--it is definatly the best spam-blocking program I have tried.

Of course, if you know of a different anti-spam program please reply and tell me about it. Thanks :)

Another good one is Mailwasher
www.mailwasher.net
I have sued it for about a year, it is reliable and easy to use. It allows you to "bounce" unwanted email so that you appear as a bad email address to the sender.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have not tried that one yet and will give it a try.

I have used Spam Butcher and felt it did the job.

Emailwasher is the one I chose over the two. The price is right also. $20 or use the free version.

I am sorry. It's mailwasher. Old age is creeping up fast!

Yes, I've been using MailWasher too. After having tried both, I think it's better. First of all, you can't beat free! (If you want to register you can do it for a $3 donation, although they ask for $20 :)) Secondly, it has the bounce e-mail feature, which is very nice. Finally, it has a lot of options. You can even set it up to check incoming e-mails against common blacklist servers.
