Hello Midnight

I just set up Ikonboard recently, and there were two things that needed to be checked when I found that my graphics were not working either. This might apply to other boards, but I cant say for sure. Since I dont know which board you have, this is my best shot at helping you.

First, check to see if your images directory is actually populated with your gif and jpeg files.

Next, if these files are in a non-cgi directory, you need to make sure you have the correct url and paths entered to that directory, including the /htdocs/ part if needed.

Hope this helps.

I am pretty new to all of this, so if anyone sees me doling out wrong info please correct me here.

That having been said, I do believe that the non-cgi elements can reside in your htdocs directory. If your board is looking for them along the wrong path, it doesn't matter where they are, though. If you put them in cgi, did you upload then in ASCII by mistake? They need to go up in binary. They should also be CHMOD'ed to 755 (just going over the usual things). After that, you might need someone with more insight and experience than me to help.

Keep at it

Dale

These issues you're having are not really "getting started" questions. Why don't you hop down to the "CGI/Perl" board and do some reading in there. You will also find a lot of help there, maybe some free help.

CGI can be complex if you're just getting started and don't know what your /htdocs folder is for .....

i dont appreciate the smart comment
referring to my ignorance
i ask for help not wise cracks
i find that very rude
just to note to that fact
i have 4 boards up and running all on win machines
work fine
and i did say i was new to linux/unix hosting
not boards
so thanks for the help

Well, I wish you good luck in finding help anywhere with your cavalier attitude. I don't recall making any comments about your intelligence.

I live with my attitude. You live with yours. But don't ask me for any help.
