View Full Version : Free WYSIWYG Editors please
I need a good free WYSIWYG Editor to teach beginners webdesign. I know many people here are using free ones and I would like to hear your recommendations. Also, what free image editing tool could I use?
I just checked out Trellian and think it is great. However, they say it will cost money in the future so I'm not sure if I should go with that.
Thanks for your input,
I use Dreamweaver for web design.
As regards to graphics I would suggest JASC Paint Shop Pro.
If they are for educational purposes, I might get them for you for free or a very cheap price locally if you are interested.
I use Dreamweaver, too. But in this case I will teach classes for a township and they don't have money for programs. Since the classes will address hobiests and not "for business" people, I'm looking for acceptable free programs.
Hello All,
I also use Dreamweaver. A good free program is Coffee Cup HTML. Coffee Cup is very easy to use. Why don't I use it anymore?
Coffee cup does not render webpages very well in Netscape. Works great in IE 5,6. You can download a free copy from
www.download.com
or
www.tucows.com

Hi Joanne,
Netscape v7.x comes with a simple WSIWYG HTML editor. Its more stable than most of the freeware programs I've ever tried, which is a good point for beginners.
I don't have any experience with freeware graphics editors, but I browsed through download.com and it looks like one named "Pixia v2.5" is the most popular.
For that matter, Windows Paint desk accessory can give beginners enough experience to start. The only downside is that the program often creates really huge files. But for simplicity and universal access, it can't be beat.
Good luck!
Search the web for a download of AOLpress. Even though it's not supported anymore, it's a very simple to use program and can do most all of the basics.
:)
Joanne,
Here's one that is "new" and supports CSS / Styles
TRELLIAN (http://webpage.vendercom.com/)
It's 100% FREE and should work fine for what you need.
Just my "For What It's Worth"
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I saw your post about Trellian somewhere else, JJ, and I think it is really impressive. I will contact them and see if they allow me to use it for my purpose. As long as it is free, that program is definitely a competition to Macromedia's Contribute.
