View Full Version : Guest Book "Network Logon" problem!!!
Since last weekend I've been plagued by a new problem. The site is designed and maintained using FrontPage 2000. I upgraded to FrontPage XP, and everything was fine until Monday, when suddenly, I'm asked at my end for a "Network" logon, as opposed to the usual User name and Password. Thinking that it was a problem with XP, I uninstalled, cleared out the registry and reinstalled FP 2000. Still the problem persists. I can access via FTP, but can't edit and save through FP!!! Three queries raised with PowWeb, none of which has solved the problem!
NOW.........here's the odd bit!!!! Logged onto my URL http:www.no11-fighter-group-raf.org, suspecting a CGI problem at the server end, entered a test into the Guest Book......and VOILA!!!!!!! .......it now asks for a "Network Logon".
Despite using my regular User name and Password throughout these problems.....nada, zip, bingo, kaput!!!!!
can somebody HELP please???? :(:(
Hmmmm..... hmmmmm......are you running Windows XP Pro? If so, you may have this setup in your Network Places as an 'unshared' folder. That's all I can think of in this case.
I couldn't reach your home page (404 error). So I couldn't check this out for you.

I don't have any words of wisdom for the solution, but if you tried the link to his site above, you will need to take out the comma at then end in order to access it. It came up for me after doing so.:)
Thanks for the prompt reply, and identifying the rogue comma :)
I'm running Win.ME, and nothing's changed there. However, I did delete the original web folder pointing to my URL. On trying to re-create the web folder, I'm again asked for a Network logon, with Username & password, but when I enter the usual name & password it still won't let me in. Even if I leave out the 'www', still no joy!
The reason I suspect that the problem lies at the server end, is the requirement to 'log on' that now comes up when attempting to submit Guest Book entries!!!!
This could be one of two things.
First, the permissions are set wrong on the folder where the guesbook CGI script resides (since that's when it's asking for the login info, when the script is called).
Second, the folder where the guestbook data resides has all of a sudden sprouted an .htaccess file that's requesting a login.
FP XP doesn't have anything to do with the setting of permissions so upgrading to that wouldn't have hurt you.
Thanks for that SimCo, but where would it have 'sprouted' from, and how can I make it 'GO AWAY' ? :(
WELL!!!!! Just tried to 'publish' the pages again, having thankfully been able to import them yesterday.....BOOM!!!! Frontpage Extensions aren't installed!!! Just went to 'Ops', and sure enough, their STILL QUEUED!!!!!!!
Why would this be, and why haven't I been advised as per my last request to PowWeb about the problem?
(SimCo....I'm gonna cry soon :( )
EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM now exists on www.meliahouse.com , which is my other site, and that hasn't been edited for months!! What the h*** have they done on these servers???????????
Just got these off the Webalyzer stats! Looks fishy to me :(

What do you reckon?
Powweb updated the FP server extensions about a month ago. Perhaps you didn't see that post in the forum.
You need to 'uninstall' the extensions then 'reinstall' them about 30 mins later. That should fix the problem.
