I found IP address for my web site in the OPS area, however, when I enter in the IP address what I get is a page that states the server number that my site is hosted on.

How come I can't see the pages I've loaded to my site by using my IP address?

And isn't this the same number I need to provide to my registrar (as well as the DNS addresses for POWWEB)?

Thanks in advance for the help. You guys are great!

The IP number is for the "Server" not your domain. Each of Powweb's servers hold many domains, each sharing the same IP number.

Powweb has virtual hosting, not dedicated hosting (which costs a LOT more).

All you need to provide a registrar is the DNS information for Powweb, no IP is needed for your individual domain.

thanks for the answer.

My other site is on a dedicated server then. Hmmm.

Hmmmmmm, no, I don't think your old host did not give you a dedicated server.

When doing a tracert to your old domain host, it shows that you were on server779 with the IP of 66.78.26.20. Plugging that 66.78.26.20 into a browser will not bring up your web site. It brings up a "SSL/TLS-aware Apache webserver" page from your old hosting company.

If you get your site by using that IP, it must be because of your browser cache file.

Not my old host .. I said my other site. I have another website which is totally separte from sun-e-cards.com. The other site is: ChronicPainSupport.org. The IP address is: 216.219.196.240
And it is not a dedicated server but I get my own IP address. Why is that? Just a different configuration of servers? That site is hosted by valuweb.com. I've had it there for quite a while and it is in desperate need of a facelift.

So anywho .. that's why I was confused about not having an IP address for my site.

You may well have had a dedicated IP, but not a dedicated server. My former host offered that.

I have an account somewhere else that includes an IP address, but I have never used the IP. But under my budget its not dedicated hosting, its just setup different than powweb.

NT/Win2k hosting requires dedicated IP's I believe.

Actually, I have had a win account without my own IP, although it was down more than it was up. So maybe that has something to do with it :)

This account I have is actually on a linux server.

Totally off topic, but an FYI: you don't need dedicated IP for Windows hosting at least as early as IIS 5. I'm hosting a couple of intraweb sites on a single server with one IP address, and the page returned depends on the HOST requested during the GET/POST/what have you.

Which just proves, if you give Microsoft long enough they'll eventually get it right (or at least close). Of course, by then they'll claim to have invented it...

Of course, by then they'll claim to have invented it... Since when did Al Gore start working for Microsoft?? ROFL! :D
