Hey Powweb, This question really isn't a support issue. It's more of a general question that I was hoping someone could answer for me because I don't understand how the following works.

Let's say for the sake of arguement that a webmaster has a fairly popular site. Now, let's say that that said webmaster provides services to their clients absolutely free. Now let's stipulate that the webmaster still wants to provide services for free but would also like to make some $ from some unobtrusive advertising, how would said webmaster go about doing this?

Depending on what it entails and how obtrusive it is, I was considering selling a small bit of my space on my pages for ads so that I could make a bit of money from it. I really would like the site to pay for itself and I really have only two options, ads or client subscriptions. I see ads on sites all the time and many are very annoying, however, I'm sure a good webmaster could insert them somewhere into their site in such a way to make the ads almost look like a part of the site.

So, is this just an issue of getting the word out with advertizers that you have space to sell and if yes, can someone point me in the right direction?

My site already has a "Site of the Week" spot. Well, that's kinda like advertising and it is very unobtrusive but right now that site is getting that space for free.

Thx,

Panecea

i think you want affiliate advertising...like cj.com...linkexchange.com... etc.

tho you would be far better off selling your own products..like Ts or something...check out cafepress (even the biggie companies use them)

That sounds like a good idea depending on how cost-effective it is. My main problem right now is that I don't have any capital to work with.

My site, WFU Clan (http://www.wfuclan.net) already provides some advertising of a sort because there is a "Site of the Week" picture link on my homepage. However, I'm doing that on my own and giving these other sites free advertising and the "ad" integrates seemlessly with my site. So, if you go and look at it, you really can't tell that it's an ad. It just looks like a part of the site. Still, the companies that I showcase each week are getting free advertising from me and I think it would be nice to be compensated.

I would really like to sell T-shirts and I will persue that possibilty. The only problem is that my site has a selective niche of online gamers and the revenue that would be generated from that will be limited. Before I consider that, I need to find a way to get my site more clicks. In other words, I need some advertising of my own.

Anyways,

Sounds like you need to find more links to link to!!! Usually..the more places you link to..the better your site looks...to both search engines...but you will also get more visitors. :)
