View Full Version : Message boards
I use the message board that is provided in the resources area, its very usefull, but I would much rather have the same message board/forum that powweb uses, its much nicer. Any plans to offer it as an upgrade option for Powweb customers?
(I'm guessing that as its a much more versatile unit it would not be free)

Hi airfox,
That's probably not going to happen. This message board is vBulletin (http://vbulletin.com). If you follow the link you will see you have to pay for a license.
There are some very good free ones that are similar. They require mySQL activation ($10 one time fee)
Invision Board (http://invisionboard.com) requires mySQL
phpBB (http://phpbb.com) requires mySQL
Ikonboard (http://ikonboard.com) can use both mySQL or flat file DB.
Edit: Ikonboard domain name is under dispute. Has anyone noticed this?

You really don't need to know hardly anything about mySQL to install one of the boards mentioned. The install file does all the work for you. You would need to learn to run backup, nothing to it though there's software that will do that for you also.
If you have the $10, order mySQL in the OPS area and pick one of the boards. We will help you get it installed.

Hi Airfox,
Alpha is right about being easy to set up, even I did it and am not all that swift at these things. But, I love to try and always learn a ton! I chose the invision board to run at a friends site. Feel free to take a peek!

Now, for my question!
"You would need to learn to run backup, nothing to it though there's software that will do that for you also."

Thanks alot !

Hey Jeffrey.....first to get rid of this error message on your Invisionboard, login to the admin panel and set GZIP to off.
Warning: (null)() [ref.outcontrol]: output handler 'ob_gzhandler' cannot be used twice in Unknown on line 0
To admin your DB, download this program. With mySQL_Front you can run a backup, create/delete tables, pretty much all you would ever need. After you run the setup, open program, enter your DB info, connect to your DB and look around. It's a gui interface, not intimidating at all. Just use the Export function to back up your info to your hard drive.
