View Full Version : New Webmail: Powered by SquirrelMail and FastLaneWeb
HI everyone!
I have been using SquirrelMail for my own webmail use for quite some time now, but I have decided to open it up to everyone at Powweb Hosting! This is nothing against the Powweb's Webmail, but is to just offer another option for Powweb users.
You can access the new webmail via www.fastlaneweb.net
If you have problems or find any bugs please pass them on to me via email.
Some nice features not included in Powweb's Mail service includes:
30 different themes
select/desect all
X messages per page
And much more. Check it out today!
PS: Sorry for the double post, I figured this may be something of General Interest as well.

Too Cool FLW!! It works great.
Glad you like it!
My favorite part was all the different color options and the styles/format that it shows the mail in compared to powweb.
I must of spend 30 minutes going through and looking at them to see which one I liked best!
Hey Fastlane - THANKS!!!! I have setup a redirect in my .htaccess so that mymail.rodzen.com takes me right to the correct mail server login at fastlane - way cool!!!!!!! You are the man!

Heya Fastlane :) Very cool that you made the site...great idea.
Can someone point me in the right direction...?
I'm attempting to install SquirrelMail. When I try to call conf.pl, it tells me I have to run the script from the command line.
I'm not a total newbie (been making sites for a few years now), but I've never been absolutely required to run anything from the command line, and I don't have a clue how to do this.

Click the mail server you are on and log in with your username and password that you use for powweb webmail.
I am glad its working for yall!
As far as installing it:
You can't. :( It is not running on Powweb's servers because they don't have Telnet/command access, which is required (pretty much) to run the program. You can get around this, but I found it to be very complex.
You can create an .htaccess forward like
erodzen did though.

Yeah, it's not fun trying to edit config.php...I've found that most of the plugins (some of which I was really looking forward to using!) won't install correctly (or at all) without going through conf.pl.
I do have the program up and running, though, at a little more than the most basic level. It only lacks a few cosmetic changes (to suit my site, since I'm planning on running it in a frame), but I'm satiated for the moment. :)
Thanks for the info...:D
I'm looking for webmail and I see two options here, powweb webmail and the generous Fastlane setup.
1) The login at fastlane requires users to enter their server. Powweb is migrating to mail.yourdomain.com rather than the mail01 configs. Is that going to be addressed soon at fastlane?
2) Does anyone feel uneasy about entering their e-mail password at a foreign website? I created a dummy address for testing but I'll be blanked if I'm going to give anyone my primary passwords. (Ronald Reagan: "trust but verify")
3) Has anyone put a login script on their own site which passes the login to fastlane? See this page (http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/en_US/EmbeddedSquirrelMailLogin) for info.
4) Any new wisdom on setting up SquirrelMail in powweb space? How different is it from setting up a forum? Does powweb match the requirements (http://www.squirrelmail.org/wiki/SquirrelMailRequirements)?
5) Any other alternatives? I'd like an environment with a custom look, not the stock pages that powweb provides. And while there seem to be happy users of the powweb interface, I see a lot of problems with it as well.
Thanks for your time.
FLW, glad you've been liking it, I use it myself. btw there's a newer version 1.4.0 released on the 3rd: http://www.squirrelmail.org/changelog.php
Hey,
I understand your concern, and as I have said before the password is passed directly to powweb's mail server. If you don't believe me, you can now check in ops for a record of logins to your email account to make sure no fraud is going on.
Second, I use that code myself on one of my clients websites to create an interegrated login. It works great with my service!
Third, I will check out the Upgrade, and install it as quickly as possible.
I am glad yall like it, let me know if you have any questions or find any bugs!
Cheers,
