To pop or not to pop ? that is the question.
I'm rebuilding an image gallery and would like have a popup contain the 'click to enlarge' images or is that a design don't ?. Would programs like popup cop disable them ?. Should I just display on same page ?.
I know alot of people get really annoyed with popups... even for navigation.

I use Opera 7.01 as my browser. It has the option to allow only requested popups (i.e., a popup only opens if you click on a link to it). Before that, I set Opera 6 to refuse all popups (I had to reset it whenever a link opened a popup). I think this built-in management of popups may be what makes the new version of Opera a serious challenger to Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Do you get the idea that I despise popups? I'm not the only one.

'click to enlarge images'Just display the message prominently somewhere on the page or under each thumbnail. Most will already know to click for larger image.

This is exactly what I do on my site. At the top of each page that contains thumbnails is the message (centered in italics) "Click on any picture to see a larger version." No popups needed. On the other hand, I'm not absolutely certain that all my visitors realize how this works, despite the message. But in such a case, a popup probably wouldn't help either.
