First FTP experience

Please forgive the newbie questions if they are out of line.
Once I click on execute in the command menu and the FTP program I am using say's recieved and the status say's done, Shouldn't I be able to bring up my site and see the changes I have made?

What FTP programme are you using ?

has it got an "automatic refresh" setting - Refreshes the listing of a directory when you make changes.. (or similar wording..)

Did you upload into the /htdocs/ directory?

all public web files/folders need to be put in that directory.

also either delete the existing (Powweb) index.html or overwrite it with your own.

Reply to the question did I upload to the htdoc directory? I don't think so.. I edited the site content and opened it in the drop-down menu on the left side of the page. I clicked on it and it moved to the right side under 3 items 2 of which are cgi-bins and logs. The third one I think was what I deleted.. I am not sure what it was and after that I could no longer call up the site. I don't really know enough of what I am doing to understand what people are asking me what I did. Scary huh!!! Thanks for the help.
