I have been reading In on the thread (Living with Powweb's limits on MySql) and some explanations of this limitations, and the Administation/tech's of this Forum explaining that there is no bug in there setting's and putting the blame on faulty software. I have to disagree, and I am Pis* off here. I want answers and Hope I can get them.

In this thread I have mention above Starr (the Good Server Admin) stated Our helpdesk is HUGE and extremely used by over 12 users (support staff) constantly and our community forum (yes, THIS one) is one of the busier on the Internet (over 6,000 users).

Now I to run a forum on the MySql server with Only 40 members With The Same Software That Runs This Help Desk VBullitin version 2.9, And I have been experiencing outage's, How do they esplin this? They tell me I have to up and move My forum off there servers. In moving my forum I lose all the information, tutorial, files, and class's that my members have set up on this forum to aid other members with in our group. Now how do the Admin's on this provider explain this? when we have contracts with them ???? These contracts should be honored till they run threw. This information On my forum that I run off of Pow web is to be lost. This does not seem to be right and Yes I think I will call an attorney friend of mine to see if my rights in this said contract was broken.

I would love to see what the administration on this help desk has to say about this. Most likely they will delete this thread and band My IP off this board but so be it.

THey banned me, but my IP isn't static, so I can't be easily silenced.

When you go to your new host, make sure you get up front information on whether or not you'll have to ever deal with this again. I'm transferring now, and if I ever have to deal with this again, I know I'm getting an attorney too. This type of incompetence costs people money, exposure, and damages the credibility of our sites.

There is not an excuse I can think of that justifies this type of incompetence on the part of a webhost. SO much for the perfect hosting solution.

Two minutes until this IP is banned also, I'm sure.

Creldarix, dont be a putz. As I stated in a post last week, I unbanned your IP range.

Is it really necessary to start whipping out implied legal threats?

You'd pay far, far more to litigate this, than you'd ever lose by just dropping your account and moving on. If Powweb sucks that bad, I suggest you "vote with your feet." This whole thing is getting really tiresome.

EDIT: Fixed a typo.

There are things on my forum that took over a year to gather many people's imputes and time and they are irreplaceable and I stand to loess a lot of money by this. I think the money I stand to lose is worth legal action. If you sing a contract the contract should be honored no questions asked. Or at least give the people time to back up there data base so this information can be salvaged. Just don't pull the plug on them and say to bad move on, You can't have people Pay money for a yearly contract then in mid stream change it. the Money put down on this account is a binding contract. You walk away and let people just walk all over you I am not that type.

We have not "pulled the plug" on anyone, nor is the access to anyone’s data via mySQL a problem.

It is the sheer # of queries due to improper coding of their sits that is the problem. All are able to do a full dump of their mySQL data.

Starr How can my site be improperly coded. I am using the same exact Forum as this help desk is running on. you say this help desk has 6000 users where mine has 40, There has to be another resin. Plus if there is a problem with in the coding shouldn't the tech's be able to fix it and not tell me to find another host?

Progz,

Maybe if one of the admins can post the settings used on this mboard somewhere for reference, then others who use it can see if their settings match. I tweaked a couple of settings in a InvisionBoard setup and was able to keep it from tripping the limits so easily.

Kim, I recommended that earlier today, but my post suddenly vanished :)

Now , Starr, I don't think what you say is true. There is no way for me to actually monitor the things that could put me over, but on the day I went over the MAX Questions, I only had 2 users logged on in that 24 hours with about 100 page views. There is no way that could use 36K questions in an hour. Then it took 16 hours to get access back. Something is definitely wrong with your setup, or I would have maxed out before when I had 40 or 50 visitors with 10K page hits (like the day before). The counters aren't being reset every hour - maybe your software was written by the same lamers that wrote geeklog and phpnuke etc. I'm a coder, too. I write mainframe assembler and C++ code, all this interpreted stuff is bound to be be innefficient - but hardware is cheap compared to real programming skills - so you end up with a SQL database that can't execute bound plans and an interpreted language like perl or php or (gasp) ASP to run your app. The fact is, your setup is broken, please fix it. I will fix my geeklog code myself if I have some way of checking which resources I've consumed.

I think we can all benefit from that - to have a site just die mid-query with no warning is abominable.

Please respond.

I still can't connect to my database with anything, since it worked for the past half year and nothing has changed. It isn't my end that has a problem. Anyway I'm moving the sites I run on powweb as soon as my agreement runs out here, if not sooner.

I tend to agree with you

lack of help from support does not make me want to keep my site here too.

I have recently installed a mesage board - which worked fine - until a few days ago - and all the help I get from Support is rubbish about limitations. How can I exceed limits when I have about four members on this board who hardly post anything at all - hardly going to overload the system is it.

Something is definitely going on here with mysql - and they are copping out.

op & scalexoz, not even close, but nice try. Instead of pawning of your problems on your host, why don’t you try and fix your problem? Think your not going to have issues w/ any other host? Once any of them get even close to our size, you will be dealing w/ the exact same issues w/ your mySQL usage.

I wish you both the best of luck.

FYI: MySQL runs flawlessly for 99% of all our customers. There are very few that have ever had any problems.

If you’re unwilling to try and fix your script issues (or cannot because your site really is that busy), then you have every right to cancel and we will issue a pro-rated refund of any unused hosting fees and 100% of any mySQL fee you paid.

We are sorry to see you go, but Powweb has to protect the V A S T majority of our users, and in so doing may cause an extremely small minority some discomfort. We are not happy any of you are unhappy, but unfortunately we can’t fix the software you choose to use or change how you are using it.

Sorry for going off - just feeling a bit frustrated - its amazing when things start working again that this big black cloud suddenly lifts and the world is sunny again.
