View Full Version : Ikonboard - No graphics

I setup Ikonboard, I get no graphics. All Red X's. The files are there, I've checked. When I edit the paths, and it does a check I don't get any errors.

Why are the graphics not showing up, I've gone thru the install directions several times, what am I missing?

First, make sure the directory that the graphics are in is chmod to 777.

Second, make sure that path IS correct. Should be something like:

www/firstletterofusername/username/htdocs/iB_html/non-cgi

AND the URL is right also.

my path is www/firstletterofusername/username/iB_html/non-cgi

From what I got from the directions it said to make a dir where I could see my public HTML files, so that's why it's in the root.

Also while researching old posts to find the soultion, you have said using the htdocs dir can pose a security risk, so I'm not using that dir for IKonBoard.

I did make all the dirs under non-cgi chmod to 777, the non-cgi dir itself is set to 755 per the installtion instructions. The graphics still won't load.

What's next?

Move the directory into your /htdocs area and change the path to include the /htdocs

/www/firstletter/username/htdocs/iB_html/non-cgi

It doesn't really have a security risk unless you're worried someone will steal your IB images :D

Ok, the move wouldn't work for me. So I made the dir's where the installation instructions told me. Made the chmod's.

Here are my paths, do they look right?

CGI Dir: /www/firstletter/username/cgi-bin
Non-CGI Dir : /www/firstletter/username/htdocs/iB_html/non-cgi
Uploads: /www/firstletter/username/htdocs/iB_html/uploads
Backup CGI: /www/firstletter/username/cg-bin/BACK_UP
Perl Script Execution: cgi
Perl Path: /usr/bin/perl

The one path to 'cgi' should have the 'ib3' or whatever directory name you used.

I did not use this dir. it was not mentioned in the install directions with ikonboard. I think there directions are wrong and this is why I'm having so much trouble installing this.

The only mention of the dir was under Finishing the installation

Once the file upload steps have been completed, run the installer. To do this, open up a new browser window and type in the URL to the installer.cgi (ie: www.domain.com/cgi-bin/ib3/installer.cgi).

The directions said nothing of making an ib3 dir under the cgi-bin and to put the files there.

I'm trying one more time. I have to delete all the old files first, then will try again from scratch.

I believe the instructions said 'create a directory called ikonboard' in Step 1. I used 'ib3' to shorten it for my installation.

If you used 'ikonboard' then place that into that path statement. If you didn't use a directory then did you place all these files inside the /cgi-bin root?

Rick_Hunter

Yes I placed all the files in cgi-root.

Well it doesn't matter now, all the files have been deleted. I'm in the process as we speak of setting them up again. I made a dir called ib3 this time, and I'm making the dir's under there (i.e. /cgi-bin/ib3)

The direcrtions said this:

You should be in your cgi-bin. If you have other scripts in your cgi-bin, you may wish to create another directory called 'ikonboard'

I did not have any scripts at all in my cgi-bin dir so I just placed all the files under the cgi-bin root. Also at the end of the directions, it says the installer file is in the ib3 dir.

I think they need to reword this a little, it sure made it confusing to me, and I guess to a bunch of others due to the problems people post about it.

I do thank you for your time and help though.

No problem :D Glad to help.

Just a word of advice, don't place any scripts as large or detailed as IB directly into the /cgi-bin root. Simply because other programs you want to place there may have conflicting filenames. Plus, after 3 or 4 programs, it all becomes a jumbled mess :)

Always create a new folder under the cgi-bin for any scripts you install. Makes it easier to delete them later ;)

Oh, and be SURE to chmod the new folders to 755 as well (or whatever is specified in the instructions, but on a normal script installation like a form mail script you'd chmod the new folder to 755).

Can't locate functions.pm in @INC (@INC contains: ./ ./Sources ./install_modules /usr/libdata/perl/5.00503/mach /usr/libdata/perl/5.00503 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005/i386-freebsd /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005 .) at installer.cgi line 109.

Now what's going on?

Rick_Hunter

I missed the part of uploading the "install_modules"

This is what happens when you have several windows layering on top of each other.

I'm now in the process of going thru the installer, I hope it works this time.

Hi Rick. Just thought i'd check to see if you got it working after uploading the 'install_modules'.

This is driving me nuts...

Here are my paths:

Directory Paths

CGI Dir: /www/firstletter/username/cgi-bin/ib3
Non-CGI Dir : /www/firstletter/username/htdocs/iB_html/non-cgi
Uploads: /www/firstletter/username/htdocs/iB_html/uploads
Backup CGI: /www/firstletter/username/cg-bin/ib3/BACK_UP
Perl Script Execution: cgi
Perl Path: /usr/bin/perl

Are these correct? I made extra special care to the directions for the file permissions.

SimCoWeb

Those all appear to be correct. Did you upload the pics in Binary or ASCII?

Also, when you ran the installer, did any errors for the paths show up in the first two screens?

Rick_Hunter
2-21-02, 01:25 PM
I believe they were uploaded in ASCII, I went by whatever the directions said. I am @ work now.

I did get some errors with the path, but I went back and changed them, then I had no errors, so I went on with the installtion.

Rick_Hunter
2-21-02, 01:32 PM
I don't think I uploaded the pics, I had the installtion get the files from the .tar files and put them wherever they belong.

The .tar files I uploaded myself, and they were uploaded in binary.

I have no idea what's wrong. The board is up and running, everything seems to be working, but the graphics.

The graphics were placed there by the installation file when it extracted the files from the .tar archives.

I pulled a graphic property from the webpage, check the path, checked the path with a ftp program. The path is correct, the files are there. The paths are correct under the board paths section of the board. I went and made sure the dirs and files were chmod to 777. Still no luck. Is there another file I should be concered of that has path information in it?

My pleasure, Rick.

Just an FYI, the paths to the CGI and to the NON=CGI areas were wrong, but not really your fault :) During the IB3 installation process, the installer script comes to a screen that has the paths in it. If you don't look real closely you don't notice that it's slipped '/htdocs' in to the CGI path and '/cgi-bin/iB3' into the Non-CGI path statements respectively. In the non-cgi it will say something like:

/www/x/username/cgi-bin/ib3/iB_html

where at first glance you see the /iB_html at the end and think it's ok. But the /htdocs is missing and the /cgi-bin/ib3 shouldn't be there. IB3 'mixes' the two paths a little somehow. The /htdocs winds up in the CGI path when it should be.

So that's what was wrong on yours and it couldn't find the graphics. Glad it's up and running now. :D
