I cannot send or receive using any email programs. I have to use the webbase mail. Any one know how much longer it will be?:(

Apparently, I can receive, but I can't send. I keep getting asked for my password which is rejected. I didn't change my password and it was working fine before the upgrade.

Not that this is needed at this point, but I'll throw a "me too" into the mix. Exact same behavior for me.

I'm having the same problem - can receive email, can't send. I know they were doing mail server upgrades last night, and they appear to have encountered an unexpected problem. I use Eudora 5.1 on a PC, and am noticing a reference to "AUTH CRAM-MD5" during the send attempt that looks very familiar from another time Powweb had an email problem. I did a search, and came up with two threads that if Powweb troubleshooters haven't looked at yet, might be worth revisiting:
Can't send SMTP email (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?threadid=3512&highlight=crammd5)
Eudora won't send mail. Can any other Eudora users help? (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?threadid=2994&highlight=crammd5)
That first thread seems especially promising, and after much details and begging from users, Powweb finally fixed the problem, which, according to Administrator James, was this:
We use a combination of two different software packages fot SMTP, postfix is the mta, and it uses cyrus-sasl for SMTP AUTH. The newest version of cyrus added support for things like CRAM-MD5, however it was only available for certain types of authentication, not the method used to check authentication against the system. We had to rebuild cyrus-sasl without support for CRAM-MD5 in order to get Postfix to remove it from its auth banner. This has been done now on all our mail servers and people useing Eudora as well as a few other mail clients that did not read the AUTH banner left to right are working correctly now. Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

ours just got sent, hopefully its now fixed.
My outgoing was also not working, so I reconfigured all my @mydomain accounts.
I changed server settings to mail.mydomain.com rather than mail.powweb.com and it seems to work fine now.
The more I read on this POP3 and SMTP subject, the more I realise I don't know. Its a miracle my email works at all as I really don't understand it.
I suppose its not necessary....
I was reading a post regarding changing the catch all characteristics in OPS.... phew, am I lost or what.

I tried that and it still doesn't work for me. :(
As for that eudora info, will someone explain to not-so-tech-savvy me what it means?

Well... I decided to give up and just use my ISP for outgoing. I wish I could just do it with powweb like I used to.

I got mine working. I changed the servers to mail.mydomain.com and the Outgoing mail (STMP) server port setting to 25.

Eudora is just another email program, like Outlook Express, Pegasus, or whatever folks choose to use, so if you don't use it, no need to understand much about it. :)
As for the CRAM-MD5 stuff... that is tech stuff which I'm hoping would help the admins troubleshooting this thing, but really not important that we understand it, as long as they do. I used a little tech-savviness to look at what Eudora and the mail server were saying to each other, and CRAM-MD5 was just part of the conversation which looked familiar to me from another time email wasn't working at powweb.
Outgoing email still not working for me, but I also submitted some of the details like above directly to tech support, so *hopefully* that will change soon. Crossing fingers.
Same story; I'll supply some details.
I use Eudora 5.2, paid-for version.
I can receive mail, and can send to addresses on my PowWeb domain, but I cannot send email via smtp to addresses off powweb since the upgrade.
I get a 554 -- "Relay Access Denied."
It's always worked before, as configured, and I didn't change anything at my end (except for experimentation with one account since the problem came up). I can send using my ISP, but consider that unacceptable; their servers are notoriously unreliable, and authenticated smtp was one of the big reasons I pushed my partners for PowWeb.
My server settings on all accounts are "mail.[mydomain].com," and have been all along.
"Authentication allowed" is checked. "Authentication Type" on the Pop client is set to "Passwords." I've tried all the different "Secure Sockets" settings, without effect.
I believe the upgraded smtp server isn't accepting Authentication for other-domain email...
Any ideas? PowWeb folks?
Thanks,
Scott

Well said. How they brag about their enormous email space is laughable.:p
One thing I forgot to mention: This problem appears to be Eudora-specific. I can use smtp to off-domain addresses from [shudder] MS Outlook, all common settings the same...

Don't use Eudora .. is the outgoing port set to 25.
PowWeb has changed something, for the good. My Eudora is working fine this afternoon.
Thanks.
