View Full Version : pop3 and pointer problems
I've just transfered my site to powweb using the same domain I've been using. While my main domain name is now directing to powweb, my pointer name (tampabayadsonline.com) is still going to my old server. I have paid to have the pointer setup here.
Also, all of my e-mail is still coming through the old server. I have not closed that account as I need to make sure I get my mail no matter which server it comes through. Do I need to close the old one before mail comes through my new server? I have to send through MSN no matter what as their security won't allow sending through my own server - that will be fixed soon when I dump MSN.
Please help - I can't close the old server account until I know that everything's working here.

Did you let the domain registration lapse? It looks like someone else registered that name on 3/30:

If you've lost the domain, just email billing@powweb.com and they will cancel the charge for adding the domain to the account.

That's my old server. I had tbaol.com as my primary name and they added a pointer to tampabayadsonline.com. Is it not possible to transfer the pointer name? As far as I know I should own that name too.
I've contacted the nameserver listed and they said that they will change the contact e-mail to me. I guess that will allow me to change ther name server. It's pretty cheesy that they put it in their name and not mine. After all, I did pay for the registration.
This is a repost of an additional question:

Still need some help with that one.

Until you change the DNS entries, your mail will go to the old host (how else does it know where to go?).
The DNS for my main name (tbaol.com) has been changed and indeed goes to my powweb server. But the e-mail still comes from the old server.
They've changed the administrative e-mail to one of mine (rikro@yahoo.com) and say that is enough to chenge the pointer. Unfortunately, they didn't say how to do it. Any ideas on how, with me being the administrator, I can have it point to my main name? Please see above posts for the complete picture.
I have received mail from my powweb account so I THINK that problem's been solved.
Thanks.
Rick
When you added the tampabayadsonline.com domain, the SMTP service wasn't added, so I just activated it.
You still have to change the name servers for the domain though -
ns3.powweb.com
ns2.powweb.com
Once the name servers are changed, those changes have to propagate across all of the internet's root servers, which typically takes 24 to 72 hours.

OK, this seems to have become a real problem. They say I need to change the registrar before I can change NS.....
From their e-mail:
>>>>You can not change the name server. You need to transfer the domain to
another hosting company first. Admin Contact email has been changed to
yours for transfer of hosting, not name server update.

I know this is not a Powweb problem but I'm running out of options. PLEASE HELP
