I did a search on google for text based gifs, but the sites I found were too confusing for me. Basically I want to take a few sentences and tunr them into gifs so that I can use them in a dra and drop exercise. For example one page gave me this for "The donkey is tied to a tree":

<IMG src="/GIF_TEXT?text=The+donkey+is+tied+to+a+tree.&style=&FONT=Enviro&TTF_FONT=%24F%28%2125_arial%29&
TTF_FONT_SIZE=3&back=&slide=&Width=0&height=0&font2=&slide2=&back2=&v_align=T&line_j=C&
x_scale=&y_scale=&X_OF=0&X_FR=1&Y_OF=0&Y_FR=1&slide_h=F&slide_v=N&SLIDE_C=&figdist_t=3&
slide_t=P1&slide_p=1&SLIDE_S=0&SLIDE_R=&SLIDE_G=&SLIDE_B=&maskin=&MASK_T=0&backc=&
textc=&trans=&time_fmt=N&date_fmt=N&MESSAGE.GIF">

but I'm looking for "sentence1.gif" or something. I don't think I can insert this kind of tag into a drag and drop exercise...

Just about any graphics package should do that for you.

Just type in the text, and choose 'Save as', "whatever.gif"

If you don't have any graphics programs, write your text in 'Paint', save it as a gif, then D/L Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) (FREE) and use the 'crop' function in the program.

All done and dusted, at no cost....

* Display the text on the screen
* Press Alt-PrintScrn to copy an image of the screen to the clipboard
*Start Microsoft Photo Editor or another graphics program
* Paste in the image of the screen
* Crop as desired and save as a GIF.

Don't graphics programs have the facility to use text directly?

:rolleyes:

Just use Paint - comes free with every version on Windows. You can just type the text with any font you want and save as a gif.

Thanks for the help everyone. I found that using paint and cropping in Ifranview was plenty easy. The other suggestions may work to but I didn't try them.

You can write (and format) the words you want in your html file, display the page in a browser (or WYSIWYG editor), and make a screen shot. That way you can use the hexadecimal colors and fonts you want and you will be sure that they will match the colors in your document.
