View Full Version : Meteor.Powweb.Com -> Is something amiss?
Ok, my site, hosted on meteor.powweb.com, has been down for 6 days now. I acredited it to the server change and such, but everyone I have spoken with all say it should not take this long to transfer data. Please let me know what exactly the problem is. My address is www.drakianblade.com . And, until the problem is fixed, my email is amarach@hotpop.com.
You didn't renew the site. Here is the whois info

My Ops panel says otherwise:
General Overview
Status: active
Ordered: 04/10/02
Activated: 04/10/02
Renewal Date: 06/09/03
Plan Type: PowWeb Yearly [Change]
So I need to pay near the end of May. If they canceled because of what you said, I believe I shall take my business elsewhere. My panel says I still have service, so I want service.
Also, that's not my number or address anymore, I changed that info in the Ops panel as well, when I moved.
Not trying to be an ***, and I thank you for the help, but they don't need to go canceling plans when it says I still have service for two more months.
I think I know what happened.
You ordered your pacakage on the 19th April and powweb registered the name for you. This only lasts 12months and the package lasts for 14months due to the free 2months.
So the registration has run out but your package is still ok.
Email billing@powweb.com and see what they can do for you.

Amarach,
You will need to reregister your domain asap. Domain payment is seperate from the hosting plans.
When you renew, it will last another year or however how long you want it. When you log on to OPS, the domain registration info will be the last box on bottom on the left side. It will say something like "Domain Registration (1)" on top. You should be able to renew it. If you have problems, one of the admins here can point you in the right direction.
Thanks for the help, both of you. I just sent an email to them and told them to refer to this post.
So forum mods, please don't delete this one like you did my other where I gave an honest, not so bad opinion of powweb. Ok?
Thanks for everyone's time,
Amarach Drakhar

If I'm reading all of this correct...your hosting service has not been canceled. Your domain name has expired is the reason your website won't work. You can renew your domain name in OPS.
Aye, as per advice, I renewed the domain name over 30 hours ago and my site has yet to reappear. This bloody bothers me even more, now, what is the point of them giving you extra months free when you can't even see your site?
I am calling Tech Support as soon as they are next open and if they cannot resolve the problem within the day I call, I suppose I'll have to find another service. I highly recommended Powweb at one time, but now I am highly beginning to regret it.
Thanks for everyone's help,
Amarach Drakhar

When a domain is expired for more than a few days it can be dropped from the internet's root servers and has to re-propagate after renewal. So you're looking at 24 to 72 hours before the domain name is available everywhere. That doesn't have anything to do with PowWeb, it's how the internet works.
There are a lot of reasons why domain renewals are not linked to plan renewals. About a third of PowWeb's clients have their domains registered elsewhere, and, as you know, our initial "year" is actually 14 months.
Notices for domain name registration renewal are sent out several times before the domain expires. The first one is sent 90 days before the domain expires. You have to keep your domain registration contact information up to date or you run the risk of the domain expiring.

Aye, thanks for the info. Sorry if I've seen like a prick, but as I've said, I have been a bit peeved. I did update my info a good while back, but upon exploring I found about 5 more areas I had to update.
It has been 3 days since I reregistered my domain and my site still isn't back up. Please check into this.
Thanks,
Amarach Drakhar
The domain wasn't renewed because the domain renewal payment is still pending. We don't really like to discuss billing matters here in the forum, so email billing@powweb.com or support@powweb.com and we can straighten it out.
If you have a credit card associated with another account you can pull it over to the drakianblade.com to pay for the renewal, but if you are mailing payment the renewal can't be made until we receive it.

Upon visiting the ops section, I see this:
Billing Accounts (1)
Name: Shawn's Account
Status: closed
Balance: $0.00
Might I asked why it is closed. The domain may be down, but is the site? Also, how do I get to my site without a domain. And, finally, I ask that powweb please release the domain of DrakianBlade, if they cannot, how would I go about having it transfered to another service. I may keep powweb hosting since it is cheap, but I want my domain name hosted elsewhere.
And, on another note, I sent an email regarding the domain to support@powweb.com and never received a response. It has been over a week.

Typically with any registrar, if your domain registration has lapsed and the domain is in REGISTRAR-HOLD status (which is typically beneficial to the domain owner so no one else can grab the name), your choices are 1) renew the domain with that registrar or 2) let it expire from registrar hold and hope no one else registers it.
If I were you I'd pay the registration for the domain then do whatever you're going to do.
Have you contacted billing@powweb.com as mjp suggested?
Aye, I sent emails to Billing and Support, only the support email made it.
Thanks for the advice. I'll prob send pow payment for the domain then get it transfered to someplace else.
Ok, got a money order today.
What address should I send payment to and what info should I include.
Also, my account balance says 0 (even though I clicked renew domain) and account says closed. Will this be corrected once payment be received?
