View Full Version : what's wrong with my DNS?
I setup irc.delamente.net to point to 207.159.2.203 weeks ago, and it's been working fine since today. I checked the DNS, and irc.delamente.net resolves to 216.111.239.236 even though in OPS it's still showing 207.159.2.203. I tried setting it to 207.159.2.203 again this morning, but it doesn't look like much has changes. this is very important - I NEED it to resolve to the correct IP. No changes in OPS have been made to make it point to 216.111.239.236.

Let me get this straight. You've set up a CNAME to point to 207.159.2.203???
You can't do that. A CNAME can only point to a hostname not an IP address. If 207.159.2.203 doesn't resolve to anything (which it doesn't) then forget it.
Looks to me like you are trying to set up an IRC server on your home system.
You can do that with a subdomain but you are missing a step.
See this thread for instructions. (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=960)
when did I say CNAME?
about a month ago, I setup an A record which has worked perfectly pointing to .203. Until yesterday, the IP randomly changed.
i deleted it and re-set it up. seems to work ok now. I wonder why the IP was changed.
