Since this board opened complaints about WS FTP not working with PowWeb servers are Enormous!!!

Why does PowWeb HAVE a forum if it takes weeks or months to figure out some program they recommend using isn't compatable with their servers......

"We plan on getting to that!"

Some People are OVER Paid!

Would SAVE me time answering the same questions over and over and others too, and would eliminate the clutter of same questions and problems all over the forum.

Someone had posted a few days back about No One would say anything against PowWeb because our sites are hosted there...

Folks,

There are absolutely NO compatibility issue with WS_FTP (or any FTP client) and our systems. If you know how to use WS_FTP, it is one of the BEST clients to use (some may say Cute_FTP is the best).

Personally, I have been using WS_FTP for over 7 years (yes, it has been around a long time). I have never had one issue or problem with it unless I did something in err.

Same here. I have yet to experience any type of problems with WS_FTP with any service provider. Works great for me.

theBrainCel.....

My point WAS, we had several trying to install ikonboard, they'd set chmod, it took, they'd back out, it went back to the old setting, they downloaded a dif FTP client and it worked and took..... I got 4 e-mails asking what to do...

Could've been a server brainfart....

I have to agree with Starr and VBman, I have found no compatability issues between Powweb and WS FTP. Im my experience, it works flawlessly.

I've been using it about 5 years, maybe I'm just used to it, but to me it's a very simple and easy to use client with all the features I need. I've used it working on MANY different servers and have never had a problem. I'm baffled by the chmod probs people seem to be having with it.

So, do you have ikonboard up and running. I tried several times (after following the instructions that came with both ikonboard and elsewhere on this board) and it kept failing. I was obviously making the same mistake over and over again but for the life of me, I don't know what it is.

How DO you get ikonboard up and running?

Hey Fud,

If you would like me to help you get it up and running just let me know and I can help. It can be a pain for some people that are new to installing ikonboard.

My problem I had was when it said to create folder, I uploaded the folder and contents, instead of just creating JUST the folder at my site.
A common problem is using Auto-detect to upload. Sometimes it won't detect right. Be sure to tell FTP to upload in ASCII and BINARY mode, whichever the file calls for.

CHMOD only the files it tells you, not all within folder.

IB_HTML goes in your htdocs folder, (just like your website index)

Ikonboard goes in Cgi-bin folder

When ALL files are uploaded, Installer is at www.yoursite.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/installer.cgi

In my installer, paths were wrong, as in: /www/s/sitename/cgi-bin/Ikonboard/IB_HTML so keep a close eye on paths in installer.

Cgi-bin and Ikonboard should NEVER be associated with IB_HTML
because Ikonboard is in your cgi-bin and IB_HTML is in your htdocs folder.

After installer is complete your ending URL will be like mine: http://www.freeandstingy.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi

Many has stated they had to re-write paths in ikonboard original files, I NEVER had to do this, one time I thought I was going to have to, but ended up I forgot to upload ikonboard.conf file.

Your images you have to re-upload (overwrite), for some reason, seems the .tar file doesn't extract these well at all! Images are uploaded into your IB_HTML file.

If you have tried to install and it didn't take right, delete the install.lock file it places in your htdocs folder, I believe is where it's at. It will make another one, this file will lock you and everybody else out of installer! A nice security feature!

I kept myself in check by printing out instructions and crossed every file off and CHMOD every file as I uploaded it, follow instructions word for word. Don't upload ANY file unless it tells you to.
Also, I hope you are using the latest Version 3.0.1 GOLD because it is their most stable board and is the one they are using for their MyIkonboard.com business early next year. If not, download latest version and delete contents of Ikonboard and IB_HTML folder off website and start all over any other strangler files can be overwritten, but many has changed in Ikonboard and IB_HTML folders.

Hope This Helps!
Just take your time and be patient!
