I would like more detailed stats than Webalizer.

Since my access_log reaches 100MB+ before being rolled over, is it safe to run the Perl-based awstats on it?

Second, I would like to save each week's zipped /logs/access_log.zip, and run several zip files through the analyses at the same time on my home computer (Windows XP). Can awstats be modified to handle zip files? Is there another free log analysis tool that I can use?

Thanks in advance.

Well, there's Funnel Web Analyzer from www.quest.com - it's sort of free in that you can download a version that works for about three and a half months, then you download it again. (Their web site says this.)

I have found it a bit buggy, and haven't explored all the customizations, but it does work. It doesn't understand zip files, as far as I can tell, but it can handle multiple files.

awstats may be a better bet overall, but I haven't put in the effort to get that working on my local system.

This program works with the .zip files

Web Log Expert (http://www.weblogexpert.com/)

I have used the lite version.
