View Full Version : I bought a Beatles CDRom that has 27 #1 hits
on it and the sound quality "sucks monoly" on all but one of them and that one is by John and Yoko. I have a Sound Blaster sound card, sounds redundant, and it's associated recording software. The software is mostly midi and wav and tuned to external sources. I'd like to edit the tunes on the CD and add various depths, mono killers, but see no way. Any ideas on how to do this or have I missed one of Sound Blaster software capabilities (this is what I'm hoping for).
:p
what format are the songs in? Just curious, it doesn't matter too much so long as it isn't midi. :)
Anyway, what I would suggest is copying that stuff to your computer, then going at it with a sound editing program. I very much like Goldwave:

Do you have a soundblaster card with EAX support? I believe that's the Live! series and newer. If you do, these have built in support for acoustic stuff like reverb and whatnot to make stuff sound less tinny. Nothing you can't do with Goldwave manually, though.
Anyway, once you're done I would save it and burn it, assuming you have a burner.
and AudioConvert so I can edit to either MP3, WAV, or WMA. Sound Blaster has a recorder, rhythmania, and surround mixer but again I can only see external sources as input (microphone or musical instruments). How do I get rhythmania or the mixer to look at a .WMA file.
:p
I'm afraid I know nothing about the SoundBlaster apps. I pretty much played with them a bit, got bored and removed them. If I'm not mistaken, Mixer is the one where you can apply all the EAX presets, right? What I would do is turn it on, hit record on some audio program (Goldwave will do it, I'm sure recorder will too) and then play the song. Once it's done, stop the recording and trim off the dead space from the front and back of the recording. Then just resave it.
Why are there never any good deals on Beatles music?
because the Beatles are STILL a bunch of money grubbers. :)

You don't.........You record a CD track and save it as a .wav file.
You use the soundblaster application, or another, to re-sample to 44.1 Khz stereo (If it's not stereo already) and then play around with each channel, adding reverb etc.
You can then cross-fade, and do other wonderful things to both channels until you get it sounding how 'you' want it to sound.
Then you convert it to .wma format.
Then you play around some more.
Do have fun - I shall expect to see your next posting in around six months time.........

I can convert from the CDRom format to .wav at 44.1 khz stereo right off the top with AutoConvert. Which SoundBlaster application do I then use to play around with each channel and reverb. You know I'll be BAK!

The software I was thinking of doesn't come bundled with SB Live!
It must have been bundled with my old SB16 card, sorry about that.
However, have a look at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (FREE)

And if you feel like investing a few dollars:

Satis mentioned 'Goldwave' earlier which would be a 'SOUND' choice for anyone to make.
;)
Have fun...........

I paid $9.95 for the 27 #1 Beatles hits album, $6.95 for a 20 tune Beach Boys album, and $6.95 for a Unchained Melody 10 tune LeAnn Rimes album. All suffer the same monotheism that I'd like to fix. Perhaps I did get what I paid for but if this is the music industries idea of combating p2p internet music exchange they have screwedup again. The internet laid a golden egg for hundreds of has been artists and the music industry has been trying to kill the goose ever since. Had it not been for the internet those old has been, such as the Beatles, Beach Boys, Blondie, and Queen would have remained has beens. The music industry knows only one speed, from the days of LP and 45s on, and that's take, take, take. I sincerely hope this insults some music storm troopers out there. As if they have a wit to give a twit. Please don't waste your time explaining the Draconian copyrights laws in the U.S. Yes, Mickey Mouse will live for ever. Unfortunately, Walt did not.
