View Full Version : VIdeo file -> GIF image
Hello,
Is there a way that i can turn this short video clip and create into a GIF image? What program I should use to do this kind of operation? I have Macromedia Flash MX and Adobe GoLive. Do these 2 apps do the trick?
Thanks

do you mean extract a number of images from the movie or create an animated gif ?

Yeah create into animated GIF. It doesn't have to be exact number of images, but close.

Flash MX cannot open/convert .avi files.
Macromedia Fireworks can but you will need to break the file into .png for best result.
Paintshop Pro's Animation shop will do it also.
If you want a free app search google or cnet.
Alternatively if you post a link to it I'll convert it for you.

Really you can convert it for me? I just found out it is not a AVI file, it's in MPEG format. Is it still convertable?
Anyway, if anyone can convert this mpeg video into animated GIF for me, I will bow before you. Here's a link:
MPEG NWO (http://www.lustrouz.net/dave/titantron.mpeg)
Make sure the animation is smooth, and the height dimension of the finished animated GIF is 70 pixels.
Thanks in Advance!

"short video clip" ?? 4.8MB yes I can convert .mpeg as well.
If you wanted .gif to reduce file size you may be dissapointed 70 pixel height will help. I'll give it a shot and get back to you soon.
Thanks a lot. 200kb to 500kb gif is not bad. Give it ur best shot. :)

Well to get 4.8Mb 27sec down to 200kb you would lose to much clarity. I took every 3rd frame optimised to 67 colours with dithering at 70 pixels high and got it down to 486kb 29sec. You have to weigh up quality vs file size. Of course there's no audio with a .gif and I'm asuming you have permission from the source to use their images if you intend to publish this on your site.
Let me know if you want it smaller, looped, or anything. :)
View it online or right click and 'save target as'.

Hey that's pretty cool. Will need rubber grips to grab a schooner...
I've been working on a rocket engine in blender. mostly getting the particle generator perfected. Am happy enough with the result now to show you... o'master of 3d. Was 42mb .avi - sqeezed it down to 196kb.
