The Animation (http://www.motionndesign.com/realstarwars.html) was done using a Book by New Riders called; 3ds max 4 MAGIC (http://www.newriders.com/isapi/st~{2458DEFE-7601-4781-BD04-728B23B37079}/session_id~{8487F601-DDDE-4C9A-AD57-BD3C0B5E3C88}/product_id~{CF94C605-88DF-488A-AD54-5F6288F75873}/books/product.asp).
It shows how to animate the materials using Alpha channels and Map Gizmos. The impact fire and debris was made using a Particle Spawn called “Super Spray”.

The book is a tutorial style manual that’s more of a step by step tempo. To use it, you have to know your way around 3DS’s controls and interface. Can be confusing at times. But it is worth the $40. Most New Rider books are written very well.

The difference from the book version and mine is; the book illustrates it as an Asteroid hitting the earth. I changed that to show a satellite launching a Nuclear attack. That was done to stay away from copying strait off the book. But the camera motion, and explosion effect can be made using the steps in the book.

"What if free people could live secure in the knowledge ... that we could intercept and destroy strategic ballistic missiles before they reached our own soil...? " (http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/episodes/22/documents/starwars.speech/) is what President Reagan said March 23, 1983; as he gave is proposal on the “Star Wars” project. According to a article written in 2000 by ABCNEWS.com (http://abcnews.go.com/ABC2000/abc2000tech/starwars991101.html), Washington still has plans to develop such a project; “One plan has lasers being attached to the front of Boeing 747s. Another is a smaller version of SDI, arming satellites with high-power chemical lasers.
Like its namesake movie series, Star Wars is a technological dream that just won’t go away.”.

Satellite technology played a big part in the war just fought with Iraq. GPS system that was said could guide a missile in any were around the earth in as little time as two hours. How far will man take warfare to the outskirts of the earth’s atmosphere? Remote control weapons of mass-destruction? Live counter fighters? Orbiting military bases? Live gun fights in space?

Congrats again on the win MinDBenNdER.
That was a nice piece of animation you did. You can even see the shock wave coming out from the explosion and racing thru the atmosphere.

I did the T-Rex. (grin)

just to continue the star wars stuff...

http://airbornelaser.com/special/abl/index.html

that's the 747-mounted laser. Neato stuff. Just as cool is that the military managed to shoot down an artillery shell with a ground-based laser in white sands. That's just awesome.

Thanks alot RC.
That T-Rex was off the hook!

That's a cool site Satis. Very interesting stuff. I wonder if any of this stuff is some of that secret alien technology that our government traded with ETs in exchange for letting the citizens of the US to be abducted at night, and tagged with alien implants.

If anyone else has articles on the "Star Wars" project, or anything related; please feel free to post them here. I would be interested in reading them.

In an earlier thread (http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21547) I talked about the Sorenson Squeeze as a video compressor for the web. I got the real star wars animation from a 59.8 MB quicktime .mov file, to a 513 KB .mov file.

I also mentioned that the Sorenson Squeeze could compress video files into a Flash format. here is the result of The Real Star Wars animation in Flash format:

http://www.motionndesign.com/realstarwarsf.html

The result is a 515 KB .swf file. But it is a smaller resolution then the .mov file; and not as good quality picture.

This was a great tool because, a lot of people I was trying to show the animation to (and I'm sure some of you viewing it on here) were not able to see it due to plug-in problems (updating QuickTime plug-in?).

But almost all people online now a days use Flash as a browsing tool. So most of the people that were not able to see my QuickTime file in the first place, were able to see the Flash file.

The draw backs of the Squeeze is that you can only compress .mov files. Lets say you have a .avi file, it wont open the file and compress it. You have to use another software program to turn it into a .mov file.
Also, you only have the option to compress it to a QuickTime file, or a Flash file.

On a scale from 1-5 I give it a 4. If it could at least open other common vid files and compress them to QuickTime or Flash, it would deserve a 5 ranking.
