View Full Version : is there a way I can upload files onto my mysql server???
please explain what I have to do as easy as possible because I'm new at this and very frustrated with this stuff cuz I've been working at it for a while
I'll try to answer your question so just bear with me on this and feel free to post replies back if you need to for clarification on anything.
I'll make this disclaimer right now before I start. I at times will use links to my own site in response to forum questions. This is because I am pointing you to a specific area of my site where I am working on developing a document for the subject in question. I've done a number of cut-and-pastes directly into forum messages before only to loose the address of the message and later when the same question come up I'd have to go do a search to find my own reply to a similiar question so it could be referenced.
After saying all of that, I am not trying to direct traffic to my site and I'm not attempting to sell anyone anything. There is nothing for sale on my site. The areas I have set up for document reference don't even require you to register on my site to access them. I try to keep this as simple and painless as possible to all involved.
My eventual vision is to see enough of these documents written and expanded upon to make like a 'Starting my Website on POWWEB Hosting' manual that can cover all the basics.
Now, on to your question.
If you go to this page on my site (http://www.irarichardsmith.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=10&page=1) you will find a short description and links to several FTP packages. I will be happy to add more packages to the list if others want to volunteer up any other sources as I took the ones I knew of plus the ones that had been mentioned to me in an earlier post I had regarding FTP clients.
The install of each package will vary somewhat based on the package and the operating system you are running. So when you select the package you want just follow its instructions to install it.
I personally used the FileZilla package as I liked the ability to install in its own directory and it did not need to mess with any of the DLL files on my XP machine, which I want to keep clean as long as possible to avoid problems.
Anyway, this should get you started. Reply back if you have questions. The rest is pretty easy as once installed you specify which ftp server you are on, which can be found when you log into member operations and look at the FTP information. You input your username and password and it should connect you. One side of your screen will be your local machine, the other will be your directory area on the web server at powweb.
From there it is pretty much drag and drop or highlight and click once you select the right directory you want to place the file in.
Hope this helps.
