View Full Version : ftp will not work & can't get tech help
I have two domains here, both ftp accounts set up with CuteFTP. One works fine and the other will not work.
It hangs.....or freezes, after I try to sign on. Tech Support is not helpful. They keep saying they cannot replicate it on their end... This happened a few months ago and it took 5 requests to Tech Support before it worked.

I'd have to agree that there may be a problem with the ftp program you're
using. I'm actually connecting, uploading, and deleting fine on my remote
network at home as well. There shouldn't be any errors given from the server
side. Please let us know if you need anything else.
I'd really appreciate some help here.

Try downloading LeechFTP (Completely Free) at:
http://stud.fh-heilbronn.de/~jdebis.../downloads.html
Try FTPing into both accounts and see if the problem occurs. If it doesn't than it might be an issue with your version of CuteFTP.
Thanks so much for the quick reply. I downloaded Leech and the same thing happens. The one domain works fine. The second one, the same I've been having problems with, will not work on Leech either. It hangs....... No error message even given. It just hangs with no response. When I go to "Connect" again, it says: You are still connected to a server. Disconnect?
This is really ODD. I'll try deleting Cuteftp and re-installing. Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks.... Page
Are both of your domains setup under the same account and on the same server?
Yes, two domains, same account. SAME SERVER - I'm not sure? Different host addresses to ftp to. I deleted Cute ftp (in case it was corrupted) and re-installed. NOW the other one works (I added it first) and the second one will not work.
Does this make sense to you? Thanks, Page
Make sure for the non-working site,
Host/IP: orion.powweb.com (use your server name)
Default Host directory: /htdocs
Host type: auto detect
Passive mode: current
If that doesn't help, check each setting in your FTP program against the settings for the site that works. One of the settings may be faulty. Particularly make sure you have the right Host/IP address for the non-working site.
For the Host/IP, you can also use ftp.yoursite.com. This is what I personally use, simply because it's setup in OPS by default :)
I don't know which one of the many things I did worked, but tonight, finally, it worked. I fiddled with the settings, deleted the Cute ftp program and installed a new one, and kept going back and fiddling. It would not work.
Here it is 12:25 a.m. west coast time, I checked and it worked!
Glitches or aliens abound, I think.
Thanks so much for taking the time to give me advice. I really really appreciate it.
No Problem Nana. That's what makes PowWeb an excellent host, customers are will to assist each other any way they can. Hope that we can help you again. :)
as soon as i am up to level with mannincs and other knowledgeable ppls knowledge, i am gonna help out as much as i can :)
mackol,
Keep asking questions and learning. I know I for one, with everything I know, still don't know 1/10 of 1% of the stuff that's out there.
Here a little tip for anyone reading this. If you figure out how to do something log it. I personally keep track of all bookmarks to various sources. This is how I get a ton of the information I've posted here. Remember, you never stop learning!
