View Full Version : to map the folder as a drive
Hi,
In the thread
http://forum.powweb.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22591
it is written that one can map a folder as a drive. Is there a simple way to do that with Windows or you need a special program?

On the tools menu of "My Computer" click "Map Network Drive".
It's pretty self-explanatory from there.
This works in Win 2000 Pro and Win XP Pro. If you need another version of Windows, let me know. They're all pretty similar though.
keep in mind that the folder must already be shared to be able to map it...
Thanks for the posts.
Actually, it doesn't work. I clicked on "Choose network drive" than on "Browse" but the shared folder I've just created didn't show up. Actually, none of my shared folders show up...
What to do next?

hmm... I'm not too sure. Your new shared folders should show up as subdirectories of your network. That is the only way to select them.
Be sure that you've fully expanded the network folders that show up when you select "Map Network Drive". The new folders should show up in that directory tree.
Thanks blade83, you were right: actually, my shared folders were "hidden" deeply (on the sixth level!), but I've found them.
It seems to work correctly.

Good deal! Make sure you select "Reconnect at logon" to make sure the same network drives show up even when you restart
