Check the history tab in OPS (http://ops.powweb.com). See if you find a reason. You normally get this when a site has been disabled and the server is fine. Or there is no index page in your htdocs folder.
Hi frodo911,
Your package was up for renewal and your creditcard declined. Please contact billing@powweb.com to resolve this.
That is not cool to take down site for credit card declined without contacting the client first.

I quite agree with laura68's idea.
What is funny.....is on some of those 'webhost' chat forums, powweb gets poor reviews for some of their actions. I have a friend who is hosted here....although he does not visit this forum. His site was on one of the problem servers and he got frustrated with the downtime....but he'll stay put since he don't want head-ache of changing hosts.
frodo911,
The system doesnt subjectively disable websites without due notification. Typically, the system (Members OPS) will send out several emails before it disables a website. When the systems sends an email (to the email address you provided upon sign up) it records it in the HISTORY tab in Members OPS.
Perhaps, you didnt get the numerous emails the system has sent out. I reccommend checking the email address you have entered in the system and update it accordingly.
It appears that the system sent you an email for renewal and advisement regarding the credit card on file. When you didnt respond to the emails, the system assumed you didnt want to renew your account.
Members OPS will typically wait 7 days from the renewal date before it disables the site. An email reminder was sent days prior to the 'renewal' date to prevent untimely service interuptions.
If there was a mistake made, please send me an email to billing@powweb.com and I will address it immediately.

It' common practice to disconnect service for all businesses if a credit card is declined or non-payment of any kind.
Don't pay your phone, electric, water....I mean truely essintial services and see if they contact you before they disconnect service.

Get real, that is a lame answer.....In my experience dealing with electric, phone, others is that they DO contact you before the service is terminated. They are required to since they are regulated by the government. Cable companies are a different story though.
Edbot's response answered my question perfectly.

my site was just renewed after its first full year of service.
i got three emails saying that it was coming up for renewal with very specific instructions on how to renew my domain.
any business in the world would be dumb to continue to serve customers who have not paid for the service they are recieving. furthermore, in powweb's hugely automated environment (how else could they bill 40,000 users?), how could they possibly make individual exceptions. further still, if they were to start making exceptions, they would need to employ a collections department or contract with an external collections agency.
still, i feel sorry for frodo, whose declined credit card was made public in a forum...

I agree, when dealing with domains and hosting, no matter where, them having your current and correct email is a must.

I would love to see the gov't regs for water and electric shutoff, I have had mine cut three times in the past year due to bank errors, (long story) the only notice I got from the water company was a note on the doorknob saying how to get it reconnected AFTER it was off. Electric was even worse, no notification whatsoever.
I agree with Alphadesk in a way, it is OUR responsibility to keep them paid.

What I find even more worrying is the fact that the Powweb admins make these things public on request of anyone who asks.
As a user of this particular site I was just wondering if there may be technical issues on my end that prevent me from accessing it...
what's the big deal about saying someone's credit card was declined? is that somehow shameful or secret? there are a million reasons that could happen.
the taboo of discussing MONEY only serves those in power. who benefits from a bunch of people sitting around an office who are all afraid of comparing paychecks? management, that's who. as long as people are embarrassed to talk about money they'll never know how they're all getting screwed. or more commonly, how most are getting screwed and a few are making bank without doing any work.
do something radical next payday - show everyone your pay stub and say, "this is mine, what's yours look like?"

First of all, it's not frodo's site, it's MY site.
Second of all, my contact info was a hotmail address, and i was very busy and could not check it.
Thirdly, why the hell would i be ashamed of a declined credit card? it's happened to everybody at some point or another. I'm not perfect just like the rest you. Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone...
And lastly, I called the day that it went down to pay, and they had ALREADY dumped the database. Now, I know this is my fault that it happened, but holy crap, dumping ALL my data less than a few hours after it had been shut down???! I was assured by a powweb "technical support" person that they would save the data for AT LEAST a week after it went down. But it happened within a matter of hours.
So in conclusion, it was my fault, BUT, they had other contact information on me and never attempted to reach me, and they assured me of one thing and did another.
Draw your own conclusions.

IT'S NOT FRODO'S SITE
and is there any particular reason you felt the need to divulge this information to someone that doesn't OWN the site without making sure first?! maybe you need to take a look at your practices and make a rule not to talk about personal accounts on a public forum.
<<removed>>. i got another host and we're doing just fine back at the old f1forums address.

now i have people registering at my site with names such as "credit cards r us" "wot no dosh" and "CapitalOne".
Now how the hell would they know that it was a Capital One credit card??
thanks a lot fellas. i got enough problems with this thing as it is, then you gotta go and be all unprofessional and divulge my personal information.
the small business i am the web designer for is a member of the online BBB. i believe i will be giving my representative a call.

I don't know, maybe because CapitalOne is one of the top 5 (it might even be the 3rd) largest credit card issuers in the country and someone just used the name of a card they knew?
HI hedplode,
