though is does take up MB it is always advisable to choose the backup old files implementaion that way you can always do a roll back.
hmmm...do they ever beta test service packs ? when i had my technet subscription i got all the program betas but no sp betas.
an SP is usually just all the patches they've been coming out with for the last couple years, rolled into one convenient package. There may be some more stuff in there, but that's usually it. So...if you do 'critical updates', you are the beta-tester for the SP. :)

Some critical updates are worth it to be a beta tester.
Have had this installed on my laptop since the day they accidentally released it (I just happened to check the Windows Update that day), haven't had a problem yet. All the servers that I admin are upto SP 4 and no problems either.
Now to install the IOS update from Cisco...
Running a Win2K system which had been up to SP2 and no issues. Taking a class on Visual Basic and the software required SP4 on my system in order to run. Loaded SP4 with no obvious indications, other than it blew out my MSOffice package. After reloading that, there have been no other concerns. Maybe it was a fluke, but seems there has been some writings in other venues. Does make me wonder.
Did not effect Office on either of the two machines I loaded it on. But my W2K machines are also running Office 2K. So maybe there is a version thing going on.
