A military task force formed to hunt for Saddam and his top supporters led the raid Tuesday morning, U.S. officials told CNN. That unit was backed by 200 troops from the Army's 101st Airborne Division, along with armor and air cover

The 101st kicks ***," she said. "The 101st has a proud history of military tradition, and this just adds to that tradition

Amour, air cover, 200 troops all backing a "miliary task force" and what was the score ? 3 adults and a teenager killed , four coalition troops wounded.

Amazing, astounding, way to go 101 !!!

You really are an ***, aren't you. Typical of someone who doesn't know/understand how or why the military does what they do.

Amazing, astounding, way to go 101 !!! Perhaps you'd prefer they'd been permitted an opportunity to slink away. Maybe you'd cheer if they'd survived and escaped, and someday were somehow able to return to abducting and raping young women, torturing their political opponents for ****s and giggles, and mass-murdering whomever they wish.

Do try to extricate your head from your backside.

Cheerful regards,

The 101 is a proud unit. They have been used in the past as one step short of elite forces, though now they operate more like regular unit, they still have a proud background.

They were the first American troops to set foot in Nazi occupied France. Clearing the way for the divisions that would come ashore at Normandy. They also participated in Holland spending 43 days in battle between these two actions.

During the Battle of the Bulge is where they became legends, the General in charge responding to the SS Commanders demand for surrender with the classic line "Nuts!" The Screaming Eagles then proceeding to hold Bastonge until Patton and his Third Army finally came racing up to help surrounded Division.

Do to this action they got the nick name Bastonge Bastards. Even Hitler admired them for their courage.

The next major action for the unit would be in the jungles of Vietnam. Know as the Chicken Men, and were fearing by the Vietcong, because they were the first unit to use the infiltration tactics against them.

These actions defined the unit, and made them some of the proudest soldiers in the Army.

Now Paul there are reports that there are tunnels going to and from the building, there could very well have been more men, who simply escaped through the tunnels.

Looks like the military did its job there,as is should. The whole thing is that Sadam is still out there someplace:(

Once they get him,who is the next high ranking target to deal with? So many politicians in the world soooo power hungry....

RE:

Little mentioned, number 11 was among the noteable 4. Who is next in the U.S. The left wing of the Democratic Party in next years election.

ID Please: Washington Post 7/23 9 a.m.

Dental records as well as X-rays and visual identification by four former aides made U.S. forces certain they had killed Saddam Hussein's sons, the commander of U.S. troops in Iraq said on Wednesday.

Younger son Qusay's body provided a 100 percent match with dental records and his brother Uday's a 90 percent match, due to damage to the teeth.

X-ray records of Uday's injuries in a 1996 assassination attempt also bolstered the conclusion that the men died in a shootout with U.S. troops in Mosul in northern Iraq on Tuesday.

i will lose no sleep over the demise of these men however i was merely questioning the reporters flag waving show of pride, in the comment the 101 kicks ***, hardly a great example of military prowess, 200 + troops airbonre support etc to take out 3 men and a teenager !!!

Alpha - to see any similarity between this rout and the alamo would take some amazing extrapolation

As i said i am not sorry to see these men gone however if a group of seals did it then i may say that this was a neat bit of work, but your overwhelming numerical superiority actually gives more plus points to the hussein brothers in that they had the balls to fight it out. I wonder if 3 101's and a teenage boy would have fought to the death or surrendered under similar odds ?

SH supporters will see this as their alamo

Hhhhmmmm Paul,Knowing the brothers history and the power (they use to have),I wonder did the coalition know that their were only 3 ppl in their before they stormed it...I can hear you talking now if the story was.....:

1-12 man unit routinely storms palatial house only to find they were up against Saddamns sons and their most elite soldiers killing all 12 coalition soldiers...

Paulselhi,

Thanks for the info Shawn...I saw a documentary about the war for the battle of the bulge and they mentioned the 101..Even throughout this war they were in action all the time...They gotta be a proud unit indeed...

Are you seriously asking, or is this more of a rhetorical question?

My dad was a member of the 101 in Vietnam. I don't think he saw much combat though.

Seriously asking... I have no knowledge of the war, at all. I really don't care, as long as I'm never told to go.

Uday and Qusay are the sons of Saddam Hussein (or were, whatever). However, they were also pretty hardcore and brutal. Qusay headed the secret police for his dad, as well as the irregular troops that caused us some misery during the way. These were the ones that dressed as civilians but would ambush troops or blow themselves up to try and kill troops.

By taking the two of them out, they basically took out 2 of the 3 heads of the hussein hydra. :P Assuming Saddam is still alive, of course. But whacking these two should cause severe damage to any remaining loyalist forces.
