View Full Version : Possible Powweb php upgrade required for osc

I installed osc today and started the configuration process. I ran into an error when trying to log in with as test customer. It would allow me to log in and add items to cart, but when I would try to check out, I was prompted to log in again. After logging in a second time, the cart was empty. I added items to the cart, went to check out, and was prompted to log in again. Logged in the cart was empty. Added to the cart, checked out, prompted to log in, the cart was empty. Added to the cart, checked out, prompted to log in, the cart was empty...

Then I stopped, and thought to myself, "Even though I may be completely content to log in repeatedly for hours on end, if my customers do so, I may not make any sales." So I decided to research the issue and see if I could find a possible solution.

Needless to say, I know nothing of php, mysql, ssl and very little html. I am excellent, however, at following directions. I have read every thread in: PowWeb Community Forums > PowWeb Support Forums > osCommerce (Open Source E-commerce Solutions) and was unable to find the solution I am looking for, so I decided to browse the osc site and think I may have found the answer I'm looking for.

Would a few of you web guru's view the following thread and let me know if I am on the right path or not? Is upgrading php on the host site something that is even feasable for me to ask? I have no idea what kind of costs are involved with that kind of liscence agreement. Do any of you know of a workaround? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is the thread:

Just a note to let everyone know that if this problem comes up again, it was in the PHP part of the set up. To be more specific, my hosting service upgraded to the newest version of PHP and it magically worked! They did have the minimum required PHP installed initally, but it was installing the latest version that fixed the issue.

I haven't had this problem myself. My guess is that you do not have https properly configured in your osCommerce setup or perhaps your browser is rejecting cookies.

Hi,

Typically, the symptoms you have described are caused by a security setting in IE (internet explorer) that has been set to high. I reccommend putting your security setting to "default". Also check your cookies preferences. You can check your setting in IE by going to the menu bar above the browser, then TOOLS, INTERNET OPTIONS.

Good advice!

My security was set too high. I just completed an order in IE and in Netscape. I should have asked here first before looking for the answer on the osc site. I probably would have saved hours of reading.

Thanks again,
