I know I can protect my site from people leeching images, but how do I protect all file types.

I find a lot of people linking directly to my videos and posting them on their site.

I use many different video types, so I wondering what the most efficient way to block leeching (images as well as video files) would be.

So far everything I have read revolves around images.

Add them to this line of the anti leech and see if it works. It should.

RewriteRule [^/]+.(gif|jpg)$ - [F]

Alpha is correct you can add whatever extensions you want to block.

You can use most extensions, such as:

RewriteRule +.(gif|jpg|mp3|htm|html|php)$ - [F]

I used the alternate extensions on a couple sites.

Thanks for the help

This leads me to a very interesting question.....

All the free webservers no longer allow leeching, I wonder if PowWeb could not do something similar to prevent leeching on all sites.

I'm pretty sure that nobody wants images or files leeched from their site.

You're wrong. I leach from myself all the time. In fact, it's one of the reasons I started paying a host.

No, I would prefer to be in control of my own bandwidth.

I use anti-leech to protect certain folder, but I also use it to have free access to other folders. I have files available for posting to forums or setting up example pages for tutorials. These I want public access for so I do not have to have single server lines for ALL the sites I post to.

This is also one of the big reasons which many people move from such free hosts.

Agreed. I want to be able to leech from my own site :) And unless it gets really bad, I don't mind if others do either.

I have an 18Mb video on my site which is meant for my members only.

Can you imagine what would happen if I allowed people to leech this video?

Jade gave me the idea of making a special folder where I will allow leeching. I will restrict everything else.

Thanks for the help Jade

I was Just going to post about this subject.

Ive got a few (3) Vid clips that are 100 MB or so and dont want just anyone to be able to view or leach or Hotlink to.

So is there a way to password protect certain folders so even if someone gets the link and trys to download, it comes back with Sorry Password Required or something?

And yes some stuff I would want to be able to be leached.hotlinked as well.

Most of my other video clips are in the 3-5 MB range and those I would have actual links on the site for people to see etc and could care less.

I could see bandwidth going through the roof if everyone hotlinked these 100 MB Motocross clips since the whole world would be Downloading.

Also is there a way to Prevent Right Clicking and "Save Picture/target As"

I came across a site with that once and the Box said, STOP THIEF. It was Hilarious!!!!

any info is greatly appreciated/

Beware, if you have pics you want to protect, watermarking is the only guarentee to throw a wrench in the photo theft issue....

Explorer 6 has a way of hovering over the pic the 'Image Tool Bar' allows the saving of the pic without right-clicking...

good point. I forgot about that.

Is there a way to Batch Watermark Pics?

I know Irfanview can batch resize an unlimited number of pics at one time.

I use PhotoImpact 8.0 and Paint Shop Pro 7.0 and dont see a way, but I guess 8.0 has some newer options for that, but Irfanview is a free deal and ........well thats good enough if it works
