View Full Version : I want to use MS Access, and not pay for mySQL...
Sorry, if I seem a little 'frustrated' in this post. I've been trying to get MS Access to work with PHP for the last 2 days constantly. So, I guess it'd be wise for me to come here and find out if ms access is actually supported here. If it is, what platform are we using? gdbm or db2 or db3 or??? I'm so confused it's hurting my head. Any information on how to use PHP with MS access is appreciated.
Only using MS Access because I'm not willing to pay the money for mySQL.
Not an expert, but I was reading the php manual last night, and I think it mentioned you could use MS Access via ODBC drivers. How you'd set that up, I haven't a clue, though.

PowWeb doesn't offer an MS Access database.
If youre wanting to set up the ODBC drivers locally I believe you do it through the ODBC 32 icon in control panel, with the info of your database, etc.

Hmm. Unfortunately, I cannot find the ODBC 32 icon in the control panel. Could you possibly point it out for me? Thanks for the help!
It should say "ODBC Data Sources (32bit)" and be in Window's control panel.
Do I need to have something installed to see this? I have Windows XP and I'm not seeing it :(
You cannot use Access Database w/ a Powweb package.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I explained how to set up the ODBC in windows so that he could test and use his MS Access database locally, not with PowWeb. Ive only used the ODBC driver with java, and through windows 98. I have XP now, and Im telling you, the way the control panel looks is wierd so I stay out of it as much as possible!!!
Anyway, in XP, go to control panel. Click search, type in ODBC. Itll come up with 1 icon, double click on it and you can set up the driver.

Drat =P Guess I'm going to have to fork up $30. Hehe.
Thanks for the help!
