This was recently posted in Announcements:

Log Rotation & Webalizer change
Due to resource issues when running webalizer on large files, logs are now rotated once a day at midnight, webalizer is then run on the rotated log, access_log.1.

PowWeb still will keep a weeks worth, 7 days, of logs on our server. Each night when the logs rotate, access_log.1 becomes access_log.2, access_log.2 becomes access_log.3 and so on. The last day, access_log.7 is then deleted. These files are are plain text files and not zipped. This may change in the future to allow easier downloading for people who run stats programs on their own machines.

------------------------
What I don't understand is why PowWeb can't name the log files something meaningful, like access081003, access081103, so that those of us that do run stats programs on our own machines don't have to waste time figuring out which number matches which date! Seems pretty simple to do and easier for PowWeb (no need to renumber each file every night!)....am I alone on this or should I send a message to customer support?

This would really mess me up!

Since I have two accounts here, I need to do analysis with combined data and I use a external software to do that. Every week I have been downloading the old log and kept everything. It wasn't automatic but it was simple enough.

Not only would the rotating log file cause more work for me, but also it makes me more likely to make mistakes when I copy/rename the files.

I suspect there are many Powweb users with multiple accounts, and like me, they will need a easier way to use external stats analysis software. Powweb, help!

Hi Mike!

You are not alone, I'd also prefer like that!

My webstats worked for about a couple of weeks and now both my sites are not working. The last time I had a conversation with the folks at POWWEB, the response was your (my) frustration is not a concern of there's. The information I got from them regarding a cron job never worked. This has been an ongoing issue for about 4 - 5 months now. The only thing I've gotten is the run around "We're thinkging about stopping the webstats service", "even though we offer the webstat service its not our fault its not working and there's nothing we can do about it". One excuse after another. And the flip attiude when someone says something (calls them on the carpet) about the poor service just shows very, very poor customer service skills are in play. Have these guys become so big that customer service has gone out the window? I hope not.

EITHER STOP OFFERING WEBSTATS AS A SERVICE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM!

Hi shuggie,

I ran webstats on mars.powweb.com and your stats are updated now.

There are still problems with stats not updating for some of our customers and we have to manually run them. We understand that stats have been an ongoing problems for some customers and we apologize for the inconvenience. We are still looking for a better solution in dealing with webstats.
