View Full Version : Webstats -- Help Needed

I know I'm not alone when I say that the whole reason for why WEBSTATS have not been working or updating since Saturday August 9th is quite confusing and obscured to say the least.

I'd appreciate it, as I'm sure many others would as well, if someone could come forth with an exact approach as to how this problem can be fixed and overcome, because many Powweb customers run companies of their own and having easy access to site statistics is EXTREMELY important when it comes to doing business.

I'd also like to suggest that other users experiencing the same problem should post their dilemmas in this thread until we get some answers.

I have read the administration's post in the ANNOUNCEMENTS forum, but it was not very clear to me what the problem was.

Thanks in advance.

My webstats down since Saturday also. Things have been better in recent months, dropping the odd Sunday from time to time, but they haven't returned this time. Nice if someone could say whether they will!

Just wanted to share my pain with the rest of the Powweb community about my stats being down as well. I'm trying to move my site into the commercial arena, and I need my stats. But since they haven't been updated since the 9th, they aren't doing me any good.

This was one of my best months as well....

Powweb staff, please keep us updated with what is going on to resolve the problem.

Agree...It seems as if whenever I try a new marketing campaign, and need to see how much traffic was driven, the stats disappear. Is this something I can fix or do I just sit back and wait?

Yeah, I think it's safe to say this is affecting everyone.

It's lovely that you changed the way the log files rotated to make things easier on the servers. Wonderful, really. A pain in the butt for some, but I can see why you need to do it. However, you can rotate them once a year, month, day, hour, or minute for all the good they are doing us right now.

When do you suppose you might get around to fixing the Webstats so we might be able to see what is in our logs again, hmmmmmmm? I only ask because, well, you know... It's an advertised feature of the site and all.

Oh, and ignoring the 30 or more posts on this subject since they crashed.... That's a class move as well. Nothing says customer support like ignoring a major problem.

My webstats last updated on August 10th, and I was waiting for the results from the 11th to see if someone was linking pictures from my site :(

Any chance that the admins at powweb are working on this problem? Or should I send support an email?

Just a thought, but being irate and insulting won't make the fixes happen any faster :-)

I don't intend to insult them, but I have to admit that I'm far from impressed.

When you sign up with a host who claims to have low downtime, you expect to get everything that comes with that -- including good service and a quick response.

Although webstats aren't included in the whole "downtime" guarantee, it pains me to sit by and wait as my customers walk away.

I don't understand - why are your customers walking away? You can download the log files and run them through a separate analyzer - that's what I do anyway as I don't find Webstats all that helpful.

it's a little late for that now. plus, webalizer is included in the whole package, so this shouldn't be an issue.

#1. Webstats is part of the package I paid for.

#2. I have 10 different accounts here. That is a whole lot of hassle when you're talking about downloading log files on a DAILY basis.

#3. Most of those sites belong to clients, who follow their stats to understand how their site is working. They are not web designers or webmasters, so downloading log files and putting them into anylizers is beyond most of them.

#4. Rehashing #1, my clients shouldn't have to worry about doing that. Nor should I waste my time doing it, as PowWeb has included that service, in the from of the Web Stats, as part of the package we paid for.

That is what is a big deal.

I apologize for webstats not updating for some customers. Our admins have made a few changes to the log rotation so it'll be easier for webalizer to update. We will run webalizer manually on each web server and that should update most of the problem posted here. Because of the new log rotation, there could be a couple of days where stats are not updated. However, this change will improve the reliability of stats in the future.
