I want to sell advertising space, I have never done this

I have searched the web and come up empty.

Are there standard rates for banners? What protocol is there? Do I let them post what they want or do they provide me with something to post?

Any help, would be helpful.

i use banner from advertising.com ;) and they pay rate is around $ 1.50 for 1000 UNIQUE popup impressions (popup-under)

$.15 for 1000 468*60 banner impressions (all impressions are counted even if u refresh the page)

now adsy they dont accept new websites unless you get 1,00,000 UNIQUE visitors every month

These rates SUCK !, unless i get a lots of hits which i dont get, LOL :p anyway, i get few $ per day :p

and for leads and sales, NO WAY u can earn trust me !!! u need a website like yahoo.com or msn.com to earn becz no one is goign to click your banner and buy a product, if u r really lucky they may do it, LOL

I respect you BrainCell, but I have to disagree.....

If I relied solely on popups and generic banner ads, I'd go broke....
I'd have to get well over a million visitors each month to make a living!

I can make more on a targeted ad in one click, than I can popup and general ads in 6 months!!! Many pay leads a person doesn't even have to buy anything!
The key is in the wording and make that link a part of your webpage! :)

I agree what you say, but i make more in popups and banners then in leads and sales :)

And i dont depend on my website for anything, Just for Fun ;)

The problem is many small companies pay high but dont last more as people cheat them or they go out of business :(

I get monthly or every other month checks from both Spedia and CashSurfers and a few others.... CompanionBar I never trusted or liked so I never used it.
Granted I don't make nearly as much from them as 2 years ago.
Just Cashbars alone still pay for my ISP and my website hosting at PowWeb!!!
My personal use isn't that much, my referrals do all the work.

These guys are right it takes a TON of unique visitors to your site to make any real money from advertising/leads.

I've been at it since late '97 and my best advice would be to tailor any advertising or sales leads to your website. Don't advertise something your site has little to do with, it should be very targeted. I prefer sales leads over click pays, and the placement and wording of the ad is most important. The people that seem to do best tend to advertise items that are in tandem with the information on their website.

Also, read up on how to get your site ranking high in the search engines (breaking search engine algorthims). If they're mined properly, they can be an enormous source of traffic. A key to remember is NEVER submit your site to search engines until you have done preparations to the site that will help with your rankings, the damage you could do to your rankings can be hard to reverse. I've had many clients that have done this and hired me to repair the damage. You should try to promote your site wherever and whenever you can, try to be creative.

I think traffic and well layed out, highly targeted ads are the keys to earning ad revenue.

There are many providers of advertising around the web and they all have different criteria for eligibility. For sales leads, you could try http://linkshare.com or http://cj.com

And if what "Vern" and "Bud" are tellign is correct i dont think they will be using "powweb" ! they would be having a dedicated server for thier website and they wont have time at all :p

I am too old to go chasing mail carrier, post offices, etc... just to prove to a jerk I abided by the rules and got paid from Spedia!

You made my Personal page sound like it was nothing but cashbars....I have 2 links to cashbars, 210+ midi's I did myself with help of others because I got tired of crappy midi's that didn't sound like the song, so I did my own, 35-40 funny pics, just a whole bunch of stuff for free download....this is my testing ground and will soon incorperate it into freeandstingy.com

Your $1.50 is ignorant when popuptraffic pays $3.00 or $5.00 with popbehind added to it...
$0.15 for 1000 visitors, THAT is your own fault...linkexchange you are way money ahead with 30...not a 1000, because of money from ignorant popup $1.50 or more...

But You Give Advise on making money........

It is Obvious as far as money, you DON'T care......
