View Full Version : Branded IE and OE
On an XP System, if you have a branded copy of IE and OE, where is the logo file that shows up in the top right (replaces the standard windows logo icon)?
I found the branded titles in the registry, but cannot find the logo file.
Not sure where the files are, however, you can download the wizard that'll let you brand your own version of IE and OE from the msdn site.... I don't have the link off hand, however the official name for the app is: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Administration Kit - maybe from building your own you could reverse engineer what you're trying to do?
Probably could, but I have found that file before. I just cannot remember where it was.
Found, in the folder -
Program FIles / Interent Explorer / Signup
I played around with that a bit (doing my own branding) and at least when I did it, there was a registry key that specified where on the HD the image resided. Now that you know the position, you could probably do a search and find the actual key. Making your own throbber is a pain in the butt, though.
I found the registry entry, deleted that first but it made no difference. Then I deleted the files (must have been 10 throbbers) - all back to normal. The registry entry pointed to one of the throbber files (not a folder path), but not the one that was used for the image in IE or OE - so I am not sure what it was for.
But - problem solved. I was trying to remove the Comcast branding on my sister's PC. The branding is very persistent - it stays through upgrades. Now I see why.
For some reason they really like to make that stuff hard to change or remove in general....
Isn't that the definition of branding?

i suppose if you want to be technical...
For anybody who wants to know... there are programs to download which will do it for you and lots of webpages which will tell you how, just search Google. :) I don't like the branding either.
